On this glorious Tuesday morn come away with me as we visit a variety of sites of which I have recently been made aware.
The first is the blog site of the Art Director for Tor Books, Irene Gallo. Over the years Tor Books has published some of my favorite science fiction and fantasy. As Art Director, Irene Gallo is privileged to work directly with some of the very best book cover artists alive today, many of which have already been featured as Friday Favorites. Her blog features regular mini-interviews with both established and up and coming artists, including examples of their work. It is like Friday Favorites with the artists’ actual participation. Her latest interview was with the artist of the work featured above, Jason Chan. I encourage you to check out his site. One of her recent posts is about digital art vs. art made with traditional media and it is very interesting.
Today’s Friday Favorites features a couple of guys whose work I consider as representing the classic style of science fiction art: John Berkey and John Harris. Both have a unique style and yet their paintings evoke a classical feel. Neither artist has a proper website so obtaining quality pictures of their work is a task in an of itself. Hopefully the examples that I have found will give you an idea of how stunning their work can be.

I came across this book meme on Quixotic’s new site which began its life here back in 2005. It went along so well with this month’s theme and looked so fun that I just had to participate.
The reboot of the James Bond franchise in Casino Royale was one of Hollywood’s pleasant surprises last year. I left the movie with an appreciation for the character that I hadn’t previously possessed and a desire to give Ian Fleming’s novels a try. I purchased and quickly devoured Casino Royale, finding the book a gripping, tightly written adventure story. I determined then and there to try to get through all the Ian Fleming 007 books this year. The second on the list, Live and Let Die, has nearly derailed that uberlist goal.
