Though fashionably late, Old Man Winter did finally arrive here in the Midwest this weekend. I welcomed him with open arms.

As promised, today’s Friday Favorite features more science fiction art, this time buy the digital master Stephan Martiniere.
The internet is a fascinating place. In addition to the wonderful people one meets and converses with on a daily basis through blogs, one can follow paths that veer off this way and that to all manner of interesting things. I thought that today I’d post some links to a few interesting destinations that I arrived at last night.
I am happy to say that I completed the From the Stacks Winter Reading Challenge. Books pulled off the stacks for the challenge were:
Neil Gaiman, Bram Stoker, Patricia A. McKillip, Harry Harrison, Edgar Allan Poe…in its two years of existence, this blog is littered with comments about said authors. These are the authors whose works I tend to devour and who frequently find their way on to my re-read list. Although I have read a number of astounding books by other authors in my lifetime, it is these 5 particularly whose novels are significant signposts marking memorable points along my reading journey. I believe I am ready to annoint John Scalzi as a member of this pantheon of my literary heroes.
