Today is the Day!!!

I cannot believe it! It is finally here! Rumors of this show began to trickle out last year and back in mid-October tickets went on sale and I quickly snatched up my weekend pass.

This is a huge, huge deal! Science Fiction and Fantasy illustration, particularly in the realm of book covers, is the kind of art I have the biggest connection to, one that dates back to my earliest recollections of seeing book covers by artists like John Berkey, Frank Frazetta and a host of other amazing artists. This show will feature some of the long-time greats as well as newer faces in the industry. It is going to be amazing, and it is right here in Kansas City. I’m a bit beside myself with glee!

Some of the many I am looking forward to seeing this weekend are:

And so many, MANY more!

I truly cannot wait (only a few more hours!)

Jeff and I will probably be thrown out within the first few minutes for slobbering all over the art.

Can’t wait to give you all the play by play when the weekend is over.

Hope everyone has a wonderful weekend. Catch you on the other side!

  1. awesome! need I bother wishing you a good time?! maybe it would be better to wish you every opportunity to slobber at will.

  2. Man oh man oh man!! You lucky stiff, getting to see that show! Hope for a FULL report soon!

    1. Today was more amazing than I could have imagined. I’m not sure if I’ll be able to sleep tonight, waiting for tomorrow!

  3. oh wow! have a grand time! Does this “art show” go anywhere else in the USA?? Tell Michael Whelan he can draw dragons for me all day long! (dragonriders of pern)…

    1. They’ve done smaller versions in NYC, but this is an inaugural event here. Whelan has been a dream (talked to him three separate times already), very much the gentleman. Can’t wait to relay the stories later.

    1. It was indeed super cool. I’ll be doing a series of posts about it soon. Too much went on to cram into one post.
