With the summer blockbusters essentially over for the year, it is time to look for interesting, possibly smaller films to fill my movie-going needs. Of course Lady in the Water is this weekend and although I’m really looking forward to it I’m not sure I’d classify it as a blockbuster. Here are a few other films that look to be interesting:

We saw the trailer for The Science of Sleep at the preview of A Scanner Darkly last week. It appears to be a quirky, independent film from the makers of Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, a film that I thoroughly enjoyed. The Science of Sleep looks to have some fantastic dream sequences that mimic the equally amazing mind sequences of Eternal Sunshine. This one is slated for September 15th release. Trailer here.

The Illusionist is a film that I came across while watching movie trailers. With its phenomenal cast (Paul Giamatti, Edward Norton, Jessica Biel, and Rufus Sewell) and the slightly eerie feel of the trailer it is a film that I am anticipating seeing in the theatre. The Illusionist is from the film makers who brought Sideways and Crash to the big screen so hopefully they will continue with their run of well written films. You can click on the site here and the trailer will start automatically.
Only two more days to the weekend (and Lady in the Water!) and possibly only one more day of 100+ temperatures…for now. Never thought I would look forward to a 90 degree day!
Been a while since I have noticed anything worth writing back to, but the trailer for the Illusionist is quite intriguing. Can’t wait. Looks like a sleeper hit. Just kidding about the opening remarks. Carl is always worth writing to and about! Cutie.
I hadn’t heard of either The Illusionist or Scince of Sleep, but thet both look interesting. And of course I’ll be going to see Lady in the Water, though it isn’t out here for a while
I’m not sure which is the better of two evils…the opening insult or the sweet nothings at the end. Ugh!
Illusionist looks kinda blah to me. I’m more interested in The Prestige! Consider these names: Christian Bale, Hugh Jackman, and Michael Caine, directed by Christopher Nolan!
SoS looks fantastic.
Prestige looks good, although the name I would consider in that one above the three you mentioned is Scarlett Johansson….woh!
What?! Blockbusters over?! I think not–We have yet to see SNAKES ON A PLANE!!!
Oh those look SOOO good! Both The Illusionist and The Prestige look fab. I think
SOS looks like a delightful love story.
I must agree with Wayne any movie with Samuel L. Jackson AND snakes in which both take their acting chops to new heights is a blockbuster in my book.
As for SOS it’s sad but I don’t even remember seeing that preview on the front of A scanner darkly. That’s a sign in my book. 🙂
I’m up for the other movies though.
The Illusionist and Science of Sleep look interesting. I’ve decided I don’t want to miss anything that Paul Giamatti is in. I’m especially eager to see Lady in the Water.
I am really looking forward to seeing Lady in the Water, as well. Eternal Sunshine was great. Maybe I would enjoy SOS. I’m not sure about The Illusionist. James showed me the trailer for it last night.
So bizarre seeing French actors speak in English to each other in a French-directed movie… The trailer in France is in French and quite different, in fact -I may even say less good.
Can I add another “French” in there for good measure? Oh yeah, just did…
The trailers for both The Prestige and the Illusionist look cool. Although if I could only pick one to see though I’ll go with The Prestige. I’ve enjoyed both Christopher Nolan I’ve seen ( Memento and Batman Begins ) and I’m also a fan on Michael Caine, Hugh Jackman and madam Scarlett. Luckily I don’t have to pick and plan on seeing both either at the theatre or alteast on DVD.
I hope to see both in the theatre and will for sure see them on DVD. I want to see that Woody Allen movie with Scarlett and Hugh in it as well but will probably wait for DVD on that one.
