(Grim Reading Poppet)
‘Twill be a cloudy, chill weekend in the land in which I dwell…making it a perfect time for indulging in some grim reading. And with thoughts of Halloween fast approaching, it is that wonderful time of year when the fabulous, fantastic Lisa Snellings holds her annual Poppet Halloween Sale!
Don’t know just how fabulous and fantastic Lisa is? Make sure to check out my initial feature on her and last year’s interview.

(Edgar Allan Poe Rat, limited edition)
Lisa has long been a favorite artist and an inspiration and it is a pleasure to be to share with you the amazingly twisted, creatively halloweeny places that her imagination has taken her in creating the many hauntingly whimsical treasures awaiting you in this month’s sale.

(Little Black Poppet)
There are two places for you to go to procure the latest and greatest in R.I.P.ing Rats and Petrifying Poppets.
The first is Lisa Snelling’s Etsy Store.

(Little Gray Poppet)
Her Etsy store features Poppets and Rats who are perfect companions for the dark and stormy nights of the season. You will also framed prints, Cthulu and other masks for your poppets (hey, they like to dress up for Halloween too!), and many other wonderful limited edition and open edition treasures.

(Crow Mask for Poppets)
The second place to find Lisa’s Halloween goodies is her Ebay Store.
There you will find special sales and one of a kind paintings, sculptures and poppets. Be sure to check out her Watchmen Poppets. They are too cool!

(Ghost Poppets with glow in the dark touches)
Also, don’t forget about Lisa Snellings’ blog. It is a wonderful place to be inspired and to share thoughts on the nature of creativity, the place of art in the world and in our personal lives, and to get a glimpse at the woman behind these marvelous creations.

(Halloween Mini Magic Poppet)
As my other sponsor for this year’s R.I.P. IV Challenge, Lisa Snellings has provided me with a few special items for giveaway. One is something she sent me last year that I saved for this year, the Jacko Poppet, pictured with his trusty steed below:

I will give one of these Jacko Poppets (horse not included) away randomly to one lucky commenter. All you have to do is leave a comment on this post by 11:59 p.m. CST Sunday, October 11th and he could be yours!
Lisa has also donated one of her Edgar Allan Poe inspired Poppets that I will be giving away within the next few weeks…stay tuned!!!

And, for those of you who end up buying something from either the Etsy Store or Ebay Store between now and October 25th, I will be doing a random drawing to give away the second Jacko Poppet AND the much larger Little Pink Poppet:

All you need do is send along an email to poegeek (at) gmail (dot) com to let me know what you purchased and your name will go into the drawing for this dual Poppet Prize Pack!
Lisa, thank you so much for being a part of this year’s R.I.P. Challenge. I appreciate it more than you could ever know!

I have been a bit remiss in not announcing this earlier, but Heather, from Age 30+…A Lifetime of Books and Jill from Fizzy Thoughts are hosting the Dueling Monsters Read-A-Long. They will be reading and discussing Dracula, by Bram Stoker, and Frankenstein, by Mary Shelley. Here is more info from the event:
“Posting Schedule
* 10/1 – we begin with a list of questions to consider as you read – here’s the Frankenstein link, and here’s the Dracula link
* 10/15 – we’ll do an update post to see how everyone is coming along
* 10/31 – we’ll post a recap of the read-a-long with links to each participants reviewWhy Read About Monsters?
Other than the fact that these books are classics so of course you should read them, I’d also say that they are surprising good (at least, DRACULA is good – I haven’t read FRANKENSTEIN yet). Plus they count toward the 1% Well Read Challenge and lots of other challenges out there. And besides, it will be fun!
Sign Up Now
There’s no official sign up for this read-a-long, just leave a comment letting us know to include you and which book you’ll be reading. Then be sure to check in either here or at Fizzy Thoughts for the update and recap posts. And feel free to use either of the buttons above on you blog!
Happy – or should I say CREEPY – reading.
Mwahahahaha!”
I strongly encourage you to join in on the fun! To read more about it, follow the link here.

And speaking of being remiss, I am several days late in announcing the winner of the goodies from last week’s post about Jennifer Gordon.
I am especially happy about this week’s winner just because I love random coincidences. I use the Random Number Generator to pick the winners for these giveaways. You may have noticed that I chose to respond to your comments within your actual comment. That way it is easy for me to just count down to the winning number. This week’s winner mentioned in her comment that she never has any luck in these things, which is why I laughed out loud when the random number generator chose her number. And so…
Congratulations Amanda, from The Zen Leaf, on being the winner!!!! Please send your address to me at poegeek (at) gmail (dot) com and I will forward it on to Jennifer Gordon so that she can mail you your prize!
Don’t forget, there will be a super special giveaway on October 26th, the winner drawn out of those who purchase something from Jennifer Gordon’s Etsy Store between now and October 25th. I’ll be revealing more details about this soon. Please be sure to email me if you have purchased something. You’ll know that I’ve gotten your email if I’ve responded to you.
Thank you all for your wonderful support of our sponsors, for your enthusiastic participation in R.I.P. IV, and I do so hope you all have time to indulge in some creepy reading this weekend!
Thanks for mentioning Dueling Monsters! There is still lots of time to join – I’m having lots of fun with it so far. 🙂
Heather: You’re welcome, it is really fun idea, and I love the banner!
Those poppets are really cool, especially the Poe ones and the ghost one. Thanks for another giveaway.
Logan: Yes, I need to get myself one of those Poe poppets to join my Poe rat.
AHHHHHHHH! I just screamed out loud when I saw my name come up!!! I can’t believe it! I’m so happy! (I’ll email you soon. :D)
And I’m definitely commenting for the chance to win that jackopoppet, too. I’ve never really been interested in poppets before, but I’ve never seen autumn/halloween themed poppets before. I’m bookmarking that etsy store! And then I’m going to do some begging around my family, I think…
Amanda: I really did laugh out loud when I saw that the number generated matched your comment. And consider yourself entered. Happy begging!
I love Lisa Snelling’s poppets! I’ve got a few lurking around at home and one staring at me just below my computer screen at work.
And congratulations Amanda on your win!
Sakura: They are great, aren’t they? I’ve got a small army myself, watching over us from the bedroom bookshelf while we sleep….I think I’ve just creeped myself out!
I have not seen Halloween poppets before. Very cool!
Amy: Yes!!! 🙂
Amazing! Those mice are so cute. 🙂
She: the kind of cute that will raid the fridge when you aren’t looking!
Aw! Poppets make me smile!
Chris: Me too.
I love those little poppets, what great little reading buddies.
Amanda: I suspect they read my books after I leave for the day.
Ah! I hadn’t seen the Grim reading poppet yet!! That’s so cool! Don’t enter me in the giveaway please, I already have a Jacko poppet 🙂 So I’d love to see someone else get one! But I just loved this post!! I hope someone else discovers Lisa’s wonderful work through it.
Chris: Isn’t it amazing?!?! I want one soooo bad. I always hope new people discover Lisa when I post about her, she is incredible and her work is wonderful.
Congrats to Amanda!
Please enter me in this giveaway. Thanks!
Susan: Done! 😉
Oh, love the poppets. I will have to ‘pop’ over there and check them out… please enter me in the giveaway as well!
Daphe: Can you hear me groaning from here? 🙂
Please enter me in this giveaway, especially as I’ve just watched Twilight and really need the possibility of something lovely to look forward to in order to recover!
Bride: Any brain cells left?
Okay. I never win these things either.
There, that should help. 😉
Congrats Amanda!
And I just LOVE Lisa’s work. It’s just so adorable! I love, love, love poppets!
Heather: I wondered who’d be first to do that. 🙂
I love these Poppets. They are absolutely adorable, and if I had space (and money), I would have them everywhere. 🙂
Astaryth: Ya, me too.
oh how i love poppets!! you know I want in on them!..
did you see when I animated the poppet laying down reading?? dang that is one cut poppet!!! Astaryth is right ..I’d have a whole hell of a lot of them if I was in a different situation! I think you should give one out for the person reading the most chunksters for your RIP ! (since I’d have a real shot at that I think that’s a great idea don’t you carl?? huh? huh? huh? lol)
Deslily: Yes, that was fantastic! It was actually one of my favorite things you’ve animated. You’ve definitely been on a chunkster binge, I’m really proud of you.
Very cool stuff! Please consider me entered.
Caitlin: gotcha in!
I’ve been eyeing these poppets for a couple of years now and wondering where they come from. Would love to be entered in the draw. Thank you!
Cath: I’m glad you’ve discovered the answer to the mystery! And I’ve got you entered.
I’ve been seeing these poppets on some blogs before and didn’t know what they were all about!
I absolutely love the reading poppet and the Poe poppet!
Mee: I’m glad this post helped shed light on that. I forget because they’ve been around for awhile that not everyone knows about them. I love introducing people to Lisa Snelling’s work.
Thanks for the shout-out about Dueling Monsters! Don’t tell Frank, but Dracula rocks! 😀
I adore poppets…I could stare at these pictures all day.
softdrink: You’re welcome, I think it is a great idea. And yes, I’m more of a Drac man myself.
Love all the new poppets! I have three normal ones-blue, purple, and black and the Pink Death one. 😀
Eva: every time I think Lisa has top herself she goes and does it again.
Oh, my gosh! How did you get the cream of the sponsor crop?? Yeah, baby. Poppets are the coolest. Sign me up.
Nancy: I’m truly blessed with the support, I’ll tell you that.
Drooling. Salivating all over the keyboard. But you knew you’d be shorting out a pile of electronics with this post, didn’t you? 😉
Tell me you have the Edgar Allan Poe Rat for yourself…that is one YOU absolutely NEED to own.\
Debi: Me too, had to change me shirt. I do have the Poe rat, not the Poe poppet though.
I lovelovelove Lisa Snellings work! I bought my first poppet after I read your interview with her last R.I.P, and I’ve since added three others to the family (including the Edgar Allan Poppet, who I love dearly). Horray for poppets!
Memory: I’m so glad you discovered her last year and have been adopting poppets ever since. I’m jealous of your Poe poppet…and thrilled for you too!

I *love* the Harlan Ellison rat.
Hmmmm, my Jennifer Gordon prints arrived today can I really justify spending yet more money… there’s a recession going on you know 🙂
Then again I’m sure my little red poppets, and Pink would love the company…
I probably should have made time to come to read this post a lot earlier, but I just ran out of time! 24 hours in a day is certainly not enough!
But I still want to leave a comment here anyway, even though it’s way past the date for the giveaway. The poppets are simply beautiful! Such lovely little things. (You can’t see it, but I’m hugging myself just looking at them right now..)
It’s so so very generous of her to be giving this away. And so so nice of you too for hosting this.
They really are lovely. I’m over myself right now. =)
