It all starts a week from tonight! I cannot wait. For the rest of the Tuesday nights in June I will be in nerd heaven…nerdvana?
The Extended Editions on the BIG SCREEN. I am particularly excited about:
“The events will begin with a new and personal introduction for each film from The Lord of the Rings director Peter Jackson captured from the set of his current film, and The Lord of the Rings prequel, The Hobbit“
These are going to be some late nights! Perhaps I can salvage some of my sleep time if I wear my Aragorn Underoos and Hobbit-feet slippers to the theater?

lol.. we saw this advertised at the theater! I think we shall try to see at least one…though which I’m not sure because I think the three of us each preference a different segment.
underoos–brilliant.
enjoy!
~L
Thanks L! I debated too about trying to see all three but couldn’t pick just one, and knew I would end up being disappointed when I was sitting at home one of the nights knowing that a few miles away was one of my all-time favorite films playing again on the big screen.
Brilliant!
and you are such a nerd. i love it.
Yes, hopelessly so!
Virginia Woolf once said that heaven is one long uninterrupted reading. Heaven over here on Stainless Steel Droppings is one long uninterrupted showing of LOTR. I see no difference. Have fun!!
Lily: That is so true!!! Not much time passes without me somehow having to bring Tolkien or the films into the mix. Lucas gave me my first childhood, Tolkien is providing the second!
Enjoy! I was so tempted to buy tickets…
TBM: I understand that, believe me.
Not such a big fan of the movies – yes of the music on the movies! Enjoy them!
Jorge: Howard Shore’s music is lovely. A huge part of what makes these films so special.
oh my! You really are in heaven!! lol I haven’t heard if they are doing that around here but I will check. I watched my special versions not long ago at home on the 46 inch screen ..not too shabby lol
OMG, OMG, OMG!!!! Here too!! My son, (Aka…the boy, because there can be only one…lol) Will be attending the 21st and 28th as we have a graduation on the 14th..sooo excited Oh, and Aragorn Underoos…Hot…lol π
Kelly: Awesome! I hope he enjoys himself.
I better get on making those Aragorn underoos! Just might be a market out there. π
Deslily: If you click on that link I put at the start of the post and scroll down it shows all of the AMC Theaters, by state, that the event takes place in. And yes, I am in heaven.
Although Iβd take the 46β³ screen! Iβm still watching on a 32. Somedayβ¦

Sounds like your summer shall be off to an incredible start!
They only thing that could make it better is if I was going with you and yours. As we have this LOTR film connection one of my wishes would be us being able to watch these together. That would be too fun!
You’re geekness was never in doubt my friend!
Too true!
I bet you are super geeked out about this! I checked and it is not coming to a theatre near me so now I am not tempted. I really need to read the books first before re-watching the first two movies.
Ah..Carl, you certainly can make me laugh. That question at the end of this post is something to imagine.
If such a get-up existed I doubt I would be the only one to show up in it! LOL! Will be interesting to see if anyone dresses up for the event.
You have Hobbit-feet slippers? My beloved husband has Hobbit-feet, period. Nice and wide, although not so furry.
Have a wonderful, wonderful time Carl. Although you don’t need me telling you that to do so.
(My son and I watch TLOTR all the time, along with the original Star Wars videos, and they’re such a sweet memory for me.)
Bellezza: Not really, but it would be kind of cool (or maybe freaky) if I did, right?!?! LOL! My feets are on the other end of the Hobbit spectrum.
We just spent the last couple of weeks working our way slowly through all 6 Star Wars films in order. Fun to be moving right into LOTR.
Affirm geekdom? There was never a question, Carl!
I will think of you on Tuesday nights, in 7th heaven – I know you will have a great time, so I don’t need to wish it for you.
What a great way to start summer!
Kerry: Yes, it was all a bit tongue in cheek I suspect, especially considering that I sat at my desk writing it surrounded (quite literally) by LOTR memorabilia. It is a great way to start summer.
I doubt anyone noticed it, but this is not showing in Oregon. Darn. Have fun, fan boy, and buy plenty of popcorn before you go in, each one is a looong movie!
BTW, I think it is more correct to say that LOTR is the sequel to The Hobbit rather than that The Hobbit is the prequel to LOTR. Not that it’s your wording. Hoping for a full report.
That’s disappointing. And yes, they are long (I’ve watched them many a time through) and I will be interested to see if they have any kind of intermission, especially since each extended edition is longer than the one before it, so we’ll be doing well over 4 hours by the end when you include trailers and the new PJ introduction.
I assume they were referring to the LOTR films with that quote, in which case the Hobbit film would indeed be a prequel. But you are right, as reads it doesn’t make that clear and is certainly wrong from the standpoint of the way the books were written.
Will you be doing new reviews of the films after you see them each week? If not might I ask if it’s interesting let us know what Peter Jackson has to say in his introductions if possible.
Enjoy your self over the next 3 weeks with these. Wish I could be there but there’s just no way for multiple reasons as you know. π
I’m thinking about doing something with each viewing Jeff, not sure what. I imagine most people would be disinterested to read a standard review of films that are so old, but I would like to at least write about the experience. Wish you could be there too. Thanks for making me aware of it. I need someone to blame the extravagant expense on. π
No problem. Trust me I get blamed for a lot of things. π
Ooooooooh!!!! I have the envy! Enjoy π
Thanks Mariel, I hope to do so! Must take butt cushion for chair! π
Jealous!
And its just a few hours away! I can’t wait. I walked in to work this morning and a co-worker who is another LOTR fan came up to me and said, “Guess what I’m doing tonight?” and I responded, “Probably the same thing I am doing!”. LOL.
Should be really and truly fun.
