I had the privilege of participating in the Mind Meld feature on SF Signal, which asked the question “What 2015 Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror books are you looking forward to reading?”
Topping off my list is the upcoming art collection edited by Cathy Fenner. Women of Wonder: Celebrating Women Creators of Fantastic Art is slated to debut at Spectrum Fantastic Art Live 4, May 22-24th, here in Kansas City, MO. It will be available to all through online and brick and mortar book outlets.
Of the volume Cathy Fenner writes:
“Women of Wonder is a book that shines the spotlight on women creators of fantastic art. Though the illustration and gallery markets have traditionally been seen as a largely male profession, women have always been active participants, from Kewpie creator Rose O’Neill in the early 1900s to 1950s Disney film designer Mary Blair to Spectrum Grand Masters Diane Dillon and Kinuko Y. Craft. Increasingly women are making their marks in the world of contemporary fantastic art and inspiring new generations of illustrators, designers, sculptors, and painters. I was inspired to put together this collection after watching the expanding numbers of women artists featured in Spectrum; a book seemed like a happy way to acknowledge that growth. However, Women of Wonder isn’t some sort of political polemic but is simply a colorful celebration of the imagination and of exemplary creators who just happen to be women.”
Allow me to humbly assert that my list for Mind Meld, limited to five books maximum, is an exciting one. Please follow this link to Mind Meld to see the books that I, and a number of other authors and bloggers, anticipate for 2015. Let us know over there (and here too) which books you are looking forward to in 2015. As commenters, you are not limited to just 5 selections!
Before you leave, however…
…please allow me to share some additional exciting SF/F/H art book related news for 2015.

John Fleskes, of Flesk Publications, recently announced their 2015 line-up, and it is chock full of treasures.
My most-anticipated book from this list is Storms at Sea by Mark Schultz. We have been seeing tantalizing illustrations for the past few years and I cannot wait to get this one. Additionally, all of the single volume Various Drawings books that Flesk Publications has released featuring work by Mark Schultz are being collected into one oversize volume, Portfolio: The Complete Various Drawings, with new design and formatting and written material by the artist.
In addition to the fall release of Spectrum 22: The Best in Contemporary Fantastic Art, I was excited to see that artist Bill Carman will be having his first art collection released in 2015. Imagery from the Bird’s Home: The Art of Bill Carman, will be another book I will be picking up this year (and adding to the recent Spoils of Acquisition page I created, which can be found under the Pages heading on my sidebar).
Check out the other Flesk Publications offerings, and don’t forget to let me hear from you over on SF Signal. I appreciate your comments there as much as I do here.
And if you check the comments on Mind Meld closely, you will see that I was uncharacteristically annoyed by a fellow commenter. Well, the annoyance may not be uncharacteristic, but me responding to it is. I always regret doing so, and will no doubt here as well.
So the question again: “What 2015 Science Fiction, Fantasy and Horror books are you looking forward to reading?”
I checked out the mind meld and really enjoyed it. In fact I added quite a few books to my wish list on the strength of it!!
I didn’t see this comment you make mention of – I think I stopped over fairly early on though – now I’m all intrigued and will have to pay another visit!
Well done with your picks.
Lynn 😀
Thanks Lynn, glad you checked it out. There are some great books on the list, and many more than none of us touched on.
You didn’t miss anything by not seeing the comments section. 🙂
