Woo-Hoo!!!! More movie news.

I saw this on the recently discovered Tim Burton Collective website and it would be a gross understatement to say that I am excited about this. I did not see NBX when it was originally released in theatres and it is such a phenomenal film that I can’t believe I might be able to see it on the big screen. I say might because there is always that possibility that Disney will put this out in limited release only and that it won’t come here to KC. NBX is not only an amazing achievement in stop motion animation but it really is an almost perfect musical with a slightly gothic feel that makes it even better. The scheduled release date is October 20th. I’m there.

Saw the trailer for this at Lady in the Water this weekend. Looks very interesting. I like both Hugh Jackman and Rachel Weisz and am thus very happy with the cast. I mistakingly thought originally that this was based on Ayn Rand’s book but then realized that her book is The Fountainhead, not The Fountain. The story looks to be centered around the tree of life and the idea of immortality. The trailer is here or start here if that doesn’t work.

It looks like they finally set a release date for Guillermo del Toro’s (Hellboy, The Devil’s Backbone) interesting looking film Pan’s Labyrinth. I haven’t found an English trailer but the international trailer can be viewed here…it looks pretty intense and artistically well done regardless of the language barrier. Mike Mignola recently created a poster for this film as well which can be seen here.

There is a very interesting looking television series coming this fall on NBC (thanks Mosker) that may get me interested in episodic television again. You can go to the official site here and click on ‘heroes videos’ to see the trailer (it is the first video you can click on). The cast looks fantastic and the trailer is amazing. One of the writers is comic book master Jeff Loeb and there is an unofficial site with great Tim Sale artwork here. With Loeb writing I have some pretty high hopes for this one.

Well, that’s all the time wasters I have for you today. Happy Tuesday!!!

  1. James showed me the trailer to Heroes. It looks fun.

We are going to get a DVR. I think that’s what it’s called. Now we will be able to watch Lost, Battlestar and Heroes on our TV instead of the laptop.

I saw Nightmare on the big screen. Unfortunately the experience was wasted on me. I didn’t like it.

  2. I know its not your sort of thing Jules! 😉

The Heroes trailer has an Unbreakable feel to me which excites me about the show.

  3. There is some really cool stuff in the Fall. Exciting, since it dried up for awhile.

  4. Love the reviews… keep ’em coming.
oh–please see my tribute to JennSee posted today…And thanks again for all that you have written about her in the celebration of her life.

  5. You are welcome and I will most definitely read your tribute. I miss her.

  6. Does this mean you’re not watching the new show titled Eureka? I’m surprised, this shows seems like something you would enjoy!

  7. Your sis told me about it and it sounds interesting but I missed the first episode. One thing most people know about me…and no doubt find exasperating…is that I’m not big on episodic television. I like watching shows like House or Without a Trace where it isn’t a huge deal if I missed one. I was addicted to NYPD Blue when it was on and that’s the last show I watched faithfully, week in and week out. I much prefer to get television on DVD and watch it at my leisure and not have to wait for other episodes. We are watching Farscape that way and if I ever watch Battlestar it will be much more enjoyable to me to be able to watch on DVD. Mostly its all because I work a second job and am not home a few nights a week, love to read, love to watch movies, love to play games and weekly television interferes with that. Plus my daughter is at an age where I won’t let her watch alot of the tv shows that I would watch and yet I’m not going to send her to her room just so I can watch TV. I will try Heroes most likely but it will have to be phenomenal to keep me watching week after week or I’ll end up waiting until it comes out on DVD.

  8. I heard about NBC a few months ago and shot up out of my chair and ran around the office screaming.

And Pan’s Labyrinth I have been counting down the days since I first heard about it in Dec! So close.

  9. I love the previews for both Pan’s and The Fountain. I hope Pan’s play in KC and we can catch it on the big screen.

The preview for Heroes looked pretty cool too. I read some about it a few weeks ago and was planning on checking it because of Leob and Sale’s involvement. A funny thing I read to was Tim Sale was involved with Heroes and told Leob about it and then he got involved. It’s a big risk for Loeb too since he worked on Lost last season.

As for watching episodic television my friend I have only one thing to say to you. DVR. It lets me watch TV on my schedule not the networks. Plus I can fast forward through all the commercials.

  10. I go so long between things that I watch right now on DVD (as you know considering how long its taken me to get through the last 2 disks of Farscape despite how much I really enjoy it) that I would fill up the DVR with things and then end up deleting them unwatched to tape other things. I just know. I did the same thing when I used to video tape shows. They were right there for whenever I wanted to watch them and I just wouldn’t.

  11. Yeah know to be perfectly honest, I was the same way with video tapes, too. Keri would tape stuff and then I wouldn’t want to search for the right tape or I couldn’t find what I wanted on which ever tape it was on. It was just a pain and I’m completely lazy. 🙂 With the DVR though I don’t have to mess with all that. I just hit the button on the controller and the show list just pops up and that’s it. It really makes a huge difference.

  12. I just don’t see us spending the money for this. I’d rather spend that same amount to bump my satellite up to the next level of channels so I can get NFL Network and RSN.

  13. Fountain looks fantastic! Two words: Darren Aronofsky.

Heroes = Lost ripoff. Let’s run down the reasons:
    1) long story arc of characters with interconnected pasts
    2) multi-ethnic casting; they have their middle eastern guy with wild hair, they have a blond, they have a doctor, they even have a Desmond look alike.
    3) the pilot from Lost is a regular here

  14. It may be, but I suspect that it will have a much less annoying “nothing ever happens” storyline. If it doesn’t it will lose viewers quite quickly. I still think it has more of an Unbreakable feel to it myself. The problem is that it is television. Meaning I’ll give it one or two episodes and it will have to be fantastic. Even if it is I might not watch if it bumps up against Monday Night Football. And I don’t see myself getting TIVO or DVR.
