Welcome Autumn

Despite temperatures that are indicative of mid-summer it is indeed the first day of Autumn. I am welcoming Autumn from Chicago, IL as I wake up to greet the day that I will meet my author-idol, Neil Gaiman. Neil’s new book Anansi Boys came out on the 20th and the temptation to purchase it and dive right in was almost overwhelming.

I already have a reserved copy waiting at Anderson’s Bookshop who is hosting the event today. Jeff and I drove up to Chicago yesterday and Scott is flying in to meet us today.

So, if I’m not on this or other sites for the next few days I’m not being antisocial, I’m just away from the PC. Withdrawals will no doubt be painful! I’ll be back with a full report on Monday including pix and will catch up with all my blog reading and commenting as well.

Have a wonderful first day and first weekend of Autumn 2005 everyone! Get out and see Tim Burton’s Corpse Bride!

  1. I’m really glad you are all getting this opportunity.

I hope you have a great day and a great weekend.

  2. hope you guys have a great time!
it’d probably be like me getting to see Peter David or Kevin J Anderson or Orson Scott Card… ok.. i have too many favorites.

as for corpse bride.. if i didn’t like nightmare before christmas, is there any chance i’ll like this one?
on second thought, probably not.. i’m not crazy about animation, in any form..

  3. I’ll go and watch it as soon as it’s out here. Enjoy your time in Chicago, and don’t be too starstruck!

  4. Awesome Autumn Pics! Have fun in Chicago! I actually plan to let a lady I work with borrow my Neil Gaiman books – so I am now promoting his work too! See you next weekend!

  5. I helped the guy I’m staying with get his internet back up and running and hooked up his router last night (are you surprised that I didn’t have to call you back James?) and so I have an internet connection that I can use to check on all of you! Yay!!!

Thanks Mary for posting this for me this morning, I really appreciate it!

Today’s the big day, can’t wait to be sitting at the reading, should be quite fun.

Angela, how can anyone not like animation?!?!?!

I’ll try not to be too starstruck Anne, I usually do a good job of not acting foolish when I meet people at conventions, etc. so hopefully this will be the case as well.

Way to go Abby, spread the word!

  6. Angela, you’re not alone. I really don’t care much for animation either. Even as a kid, I really didn’t enjoy cartoons very much. They bored me. I have gotten better over the years. Probably because of the kids. I really didn’t like Nightmare Before Christmas, maybe that’s why….the animation.

I do have a fondness for the Christmas classics.

  7. yeah, Julie.. those are the only ones i enjoy.. the old Christmas claymation films.. brings back great memories.

  8. mr. gaiman was very cool to listen too…even when framed by the jaws of moby dick, as he happened to be in my case.

is corpse bride out already? my time flies, doesn’t it.

  9. I was debating whether or not to buy Anansi Boys there when I spotted in in the shop. but I’m going to wait for the mass market pbk. Hate reading other formats they are too akward to carry around with me.

  10. you have the self control of a saint, Fence, there’s no way I could do that.

Thanks, PractiGal, I will check that out, it looks cool.

Gaiman was great last night, btw. I’ll post more when I can get home and post pix, etc.

  11. It isn’t self control, I just know that it’ll take me forever to get through it in that horrible size, as I won’t be able to carry in around with me. Plus Gaiman’s are usually bought pretty quickly by the library so I can read that one while I wait to buy my own πŸ™‚

  12. Still sounds like self control to me. Turns out Gaiman signed for 600 people at our event that night. Pretty wild.
