We Are Not Alone: The Visitation Giveaway

Okay R.I.P.ers, the first of the promised contest announcements is here, with more to follow during the week. As I did with this spring’s Once Upon a Time Challenge, I want to encourage site visitation amongst those participating in the challenge. So…once again I am going to give away a prize drawn from a list of names of those who make at least one visit to every site on the R.I.P.ing Yarns Book Review Site. I believe I counted 123 sites listed there as of today. The sites listed today will be the ones you are accountable for. If you have already visited a site (or sites) then you can count those as already visited. The deadline for visiting all the sites at least once and reporting back to me with a comment here is….drumroll please…Friday, October 19th. That gives you a little over 3 weeks to visit all the sites.

And what might you win if you were to take on this perilous challenge?

All kinds of goodies, that’s what. For those who want a little more info, the Visitation Prize Pack includes:

-The latest issue of Geek Magazine, chock full of geek goodies including an article on NBC’s new show Journeyman (and if you missed it last night, try to view it on the website. It was gooood!) and a fashion shoot with Buffy the Vampire Slayer’s resident goth chick, Dru (Juliet Landau).

–Interlopers by Alan Dean Foster: an archaelogical horror suspense mystery. With the tagline “We are not alone, but we are about to wish we were!” it seemed the perfect addition to a “visitation” prize pack.

-The Mars graphic novel by Marc Wheatley and Mark Hempel. This special addition includes additional pages and sketchbook material.

-The audio CD and accompanying book for Neil Gaiman and Dave McKean’s wonderful film, Mirrormask. The story is read by the actress who played Helena, Stephanie Leonidas, and it is terrific. She does such a great job reading. This is essentially the entire movie (a few scenes are cut out due to the fact that this is only a 75 minute production) but it is great to hear the story from a slightly different angle. I really enjoyed listening to this and the book is chock full of great Dave McKean art and images from the film.

-Minx’s Clubbing graphic novel, with story by Andi Watson and art by Josh Howard. This is a story about a visitation, in more ways than one!

-A beautiful bookmark for Colleen Gleason’s forthcoming book in her Gardella Chronicles series, The Bleeding Dusk, featuring cover art from said book.

-An eerie hand Poppet Planet bookmark courtesy of Lisa Snellings-Clark

AND

-An Alien Poppet! One of Six is currently doing stand-in duties for the as yet not purchased poppet (the sale starts next week) so I cannot tell you exactly what the winning Alien Poppet will look like, but no doubt it will be tres cool!

Those items, along with a Stainless Steel Droppings Envelope O’ Doom are yours, if you do your part, visit the sites, and do whatever voodoo you do to make sure I draw your name in the drawing!!!

Just in case you didn’t catch it, every item has some sort of visitation/horror element to it, at least in my own mind, so there is some connection between all the items in the prize pack.

And don’t forget, there is a Raising the Stakes contest going on right now for the R.I.P. Challenge that involves the reading of at least one of Colleen Gleason‘s Gardella Chronicles novels. Details can be found HERE. The Venator Prize Pack is very cool, you need to get yourself in on this contest!!!

That is all for today. Sharpen you pencils and tune in tomorrow for another contest announcement!!!

  1. Good to have you back again Carl!! Truth be told, I
already visit a lot of the blogs on a regular basis. But I
will make the effort to get to know everyone!! Gotta get me
    a Poppet this time around!!

  2. I’ve been visiting “new to me” sites already! Since I already visit so many on a regular basis, I feel great about this challenge.

  3. This is a great contest, Carl! I’ve been visiting so many of the blogs, it shouldn’t be
hard to make sure I’ve visited everyone.

  4. I have been doing the rounds a bit already reading select book reviews but will make an extra effort to get to everyone now I am back online.

  5. Drat–I haven’t posted any reviews yet, so no one’s going to visit me *sniff*

    😉

I’ll give it my best shot anyway!

  6. This is the kind of contest where you get to be a winner even if you’re not “the winner”.

  7. What a fantastic prize pack! Hopefully I’ll have the Internet up and running at my new apartment by next week, so I’ll be able to visit everyone. I miss reading RIP reviews!

  8. Will be good to have you back, Nymeth. Hope you share some picks of your new place once you get it the way you want it.

    I couldn’t agree more, Debi.

Glad to hear that many of you think you can manage this, I love generating visits for other people’s sites.

  9. This was so much fun for the OUaT challenge and I met so many new blogger friends from that one…great idea, glad to see it back 😉

  10. And 123 sites?! Damn! That’s awesome! And that’s not including a couple of people who don’t have blogs if I remember correctly!

  11. Wow – what a great challenge – and how hard is it going to be visiting – other book lover’s to see what perilous books they’ve been reading 🙂

Is going to be a pleasure rather than a chore, and I can see my TBR list growing as I get ideas- LOL

  12. I’ve visited the blogs of books I was thinking about reading, but now I will have to make an effort to hit all of them! Thanks, Carl!

  13. Sounds like fun! So far, I’ve read all of the reviews listed on the review site, so I guess now it’s time to seek out the blogs that haven’t done reviews yet!

  14. Oh goodness. Now I will really be busy.

How is there time to check out all these blogs and keep up on my E.A. Poe for the R.I.P. challenge, I ask you??

(well, it wouldn’t be a problem except for the whole full time job thing)

  15. I love visiting blogs anyway so I don’t think I’ll have a problem with this challenge. AKA should I send you my shipping address now?

  16. Sally, yes, that is what has to happen to be entered into this contest. This is done on the honor system, meaning you have to come back here and leave me a comment that you’ve done so, but I certainly won’t be going and checking up on anyone.

    Love the confidence, Aka_nik! 😉

Yes Jen, those jobs really do get in the way, don’t they?

  17. Heather, if you click on the highlighted “One of Six” in the above post, it will take you to the post telling you about his entrance into my family. 😉

  18. I suspect I visit some of them regularly already–this could be dangerous to discover new blogs to read….:)

  19. Whew-I’ve visited them all and left comments where I could (some of them required me to make a whole new account, and I wasn’t really willing to do that).

  20. I’m done with my exams and I’ll try to visit all the sites. Like the other readers, I’m a regular lurker in the other book blogs in the list. Oh and I’ve yet to post my thoughts on the RIP books I’ve read.

  21. Phew! I visited them all. It is amazing to see the variety in the book blogs out there. I added a bunch of new books to my never-ending TBR pile. Keep up the great blogs, everybody!

  22. Well, I visited each and every blog (though a couple of them, I couldn’t figure out how to comment on). Anyway, don’t enter me in the contest…you know, share the wealth and all after just winning the RIP bookmark I so badly wanted.

But I wanted to thank you for this one…it was so fun! Already read a handful of these blogs, but definitely came across more that I’ve made into “regular reads”. But what I found so incredibly cool was how your reading challenge brought together such an interesting and diverse bunch of people!

  23. I’m still working on visiting all 300+ links, but I’ve been to at least 150 and I’m having such fun!! It’s nice to break out of the usual-blog-hopping rut and visit new blogs that I likely wouldn’t have otherwise found. Thanks so much! Oh, and please sign me up for the drawing. 🙂
