The aging of my sweet baboo!

(Yes, I know this is last year’s picture!)

How do people make it through life without a sister?
~Sara Corpening

Happy Birthday, Abby! You are a sweet and wonderful sister and friend who I cannot imagine not having in such a prominent place in my life. I have enjoyed watching you grow up from the little stinker (‘crabby Abby’) that you were to the woman you’ve become (she wasn’t really that crabby but it was fun to call her that). I am so glad that you live close by and can be a part of my everyday life. Hope you have a wonderful birthday and I look forward to Friday night! πŸ™‚

A sister is a little bit of childhood that can never be lost.

As a birthday gift the heavens have opened and given Abby…and thankfully the rest of us…a reprieve from the 100+ temps of the past week. It is cloudy, rainy, and the high today is only supposed to get to 87 degrees.

As a pre-gift to you (and everyone else) I want to point you to a very cute webcomic that is just starting out: The Upside Down Me. Before you dive in to start reading make sure that it is set to ‘page 1’. Thus far there are only four pages of what looks to be an interesting tale of a little brother and sister and and upside down version of the brother. The richness of the colors in the comic are wonderful and I especially like the panel in page 3 where the sister is standing on the stool by the sink.

It is updated every Thursday and Sunday so you can follow along. Check it out!

Happy Birthday little sis, I love you very much!

  1. Happy Birthday, Abby! For those who don’t know, Carl is 11 years older than his little sis.

When Carl and I were engaged, Abby told me how happy she was to be getting a sister. She was such a great kid and made a cute flower girl in our wedding. I am so glad you and Mike live close to us now, Abby. We so enjoy our time spent with you.

  2. Oh, I forgot to mention that Abby also said that she wished that I would have been her sister all along. I said that would have been nice, but I wouldn’t have been able to marry Carl then. With the wisdom of a 9 year old, Abby said, “Yes, but you could have still lived with him because he would have been your brother. he, he

  3. Found out on the radio on the way to work that you share this special day with the release of one of my favorite albums of all time, Def Leppard’s Hysteria. It was release August 3rd, 1987. That makes me feel old!!!

  4. Thanks Carl & to everyone whose commented so far! I’ve almost forgotten that it is my birthday.

Isn’t it weird how the older you get, the less excitement you feel as that one day of the year rolls around? I wonder in some cultures if each and every birthday, no matter what age, brings forth unheard of celebrations with lots of food, people, and dancing into all hours of the night?

Well, I better get to work. Yes, on my birthday I get to work! But, I am getting my eyebrows waxed with a friend over lunch. This may not seem like a very enjoyable birthday present, but I actually find it relaxing! Then, my wonderful husband is taking me out to dinner tonight.

  5. Isn’t Motley so tiny in that pic? I wish he was still that tiny. He is small of course –
weighed 9 lbs, 9 oz at the vet yesterday!

  6. Abby, I love getting my eyebrows waxed too. It’s so nice to sit there with my eyes closed. I fall asleep everytime I go to the salon. Enjoy the warm wax!

Happy Birthday! I am glad Mike is taking you to dinner tonight! Have fun!

  7. Happy Birthday, Abby. We are so proud of you! You are such a beautiful young woman! Dad and I love you so much! Have fun at the salon and dinner out tonight!

Mary, I also remember Abby racing you to the car to see who got to sit by Carl! Abby was pretty fond of Carl and was a mite jealous of you at times.

  8. By the way Carl, that comic above is so cute! I love the counting sheep page.

  9. Happy Birthday Abby! I hope your lunch wax went well and you Mike have a wonderful night out on the town.

  10. Happy Birthday Abby. Sisters are wonderful. I have two of my own. It’s getting late, so I hope you had a great day. I loved the color in the cartoon.

  11. Happy birthday Abby!

And thank you for sharing your wonderful birthday weather with the rest of us.
