Okay, its really not a ‘terrible’ Tuesday. In fact its quite wonderful. It is, in fact, a perfect R.I.P. day: cloudy, unseasonably cool (68 degrees for the high today…I’m in heaven!), I won my first game in Fantasy Football…(sorry Jeff)…and my wife made chili for the first time this season last night, which means leftovers!!! But the title fits in this sense: I had no idea what to post today and couldn’t think of anything at all (How terrible!!!) until inspiration struck!
I was visiting my many blog friends (which is much more fun than wracking one’s brain for post ideas) when I came across Stefanie’s post about book videos. The site she links to is alot of fun so I suggest going there and spending some time. What inspired me, and the “Terrible Tuesday” title, was the Lemony Snicket video. There are no real spoilers so even if you haven’t read any of the books I suggest you go over here and watch this 2 minute video. Using several of the terrific illustrations of Brett Helquist, Tim Curry attempts to discuss all 12 books, and the impending 13th and final release, in 120 seconds. Its very fun and gives one the briefest preview of what the audio versions of the books are like (also read by Tim Curry). I have read the first 5 books and am currently listening to book 6 on CD on my drive to and from work. If you’ve never tried audio books or if you are looking for something short but fun I highly recommend the Lemony Snicket books on CD.
And while you’re over on the Lemony Snicket site, go exploring. It is a fun-filled, humorous website that is entertaining both for kids and for the child within us all.
As I mentioned in a previous post, the book The Beatrice Letters came out last week.

If you are a fan of creative books or enjoy the way books are put together I recommend that you pick this book up and give a look the next time you are in a bookstore. It is very fun and reminiscent of the Griffin and Sabine books by Nick Bantock.
Thanks for the inspiration Stefanie and I hope everyone has a wonderful, Terrible Tuesday.

Update! For those in the U.S. interested in picking up a copy of Diane Setterfield’s debut novel The Thirteenth Tale which was released today, here is a link to a Border’s coupon for 40% off good from today through the 18th. I look forward to reading this as an R.I.P. Bonus Book!
Tim Curry is utterly marvelous. π
Off to Japan tomorrow, so things are crazy here, but more R.I.P. to be posted when I return!
Hope you have a great trip to Japan!
Must go check it out! I am on the list at the library for the Setterfield book. I want to get it soon, but not too soon as I am feeling behind in my reading! Ack.
You can’t buy anymore books Danielle…remember? π
Pure delight! My husband and I listened to Snicket’s first book on audio while on a driving trip. This was years ago and had not heard a thing about the books or the author. Tim Curry was magnificent as the reader and the story was totally delightful. At the end of the last tape there was an interview with the author that was hilarious. I agree that these are good books for listening.
Brett Helquist is amazing. One of my favorite parts of the movie was the illustrations during the credits.
Enjoyed the little video clip. Thanks for referring us to it.
The books are read by Tim Curry??! I’m GETTING THEM! He’s got the best voice π
Always glad to provide inspiration! π I love Tim Curry, he is brilliant and is a fantastic reader.
To be fair with advertising, Barnes and Noble has The Thirteenth Tale for 30% off with an additional 10% off for those with the membership card…which is where I picked mine up this evening! π
I’ve never “read” an audio book, but you make it exceedingly tempting…!
There are some fantastic ones out there Anne.
anne… audio books are wonderful if you have to drive a lot as I do with my job. The reader makes all the difference. I’m listening to Jonthan Strange and Mr Norrell right and the gentlemen who’s reading it is wonderful. He gives all the characters all there own voices so it’s more than just a straight reading . I will also add that I enjoyed listening to book 1 of Lemmy Snickett too although I didn’t care at all for the interview at the end of it as booklogged did. sorry.
Carl also showed me The Beatrice Letters book and it’s amazing. I tried checking out book 2 at the library recently but they have lost disc one of it so I’m waiting until they replace it.:(
Also, congrats on your week one win. I honestly think you drafted a great team. Your team also obviously trained much harder than mine throughout the preseason. In fact one of my guys ( Galloway ) appeared to not even show up for the first game of the year. Here’s looking forward to our rematch! π
I have a feeling I’m going to get my butt handed to me this week!
I was pretty hopeful about my team as well until I saw how Maroney carried the ball as much as Dillon. Which means that my second running back is potentially going to hurt me all year.
The key is that Dillion will get the carries down at the goal line. There not going to give those carries to a rookie in my opinion.
I hope so, but I’m not counting on it.
