Happy 14th Tori!!!

“Many a man wishes he were strong enough to tear a telephone book in half-especially if he has a teenage daughter.”
~Guy Lombardo

Today…tonight at 8:10 p.m. to be exact…my daughter turns 14 years old. If anything makes me wonder where the time has gone it is that simple fact. 14!!! I’m flabbergasted!

I’m so proud of the beautiful, sweet, intelligent young woman my daughter is turning into. It is such a pleasure to watch her grow and mature. Mary and I have so much fun spending time with her. It is a real thrill to be able to attend certain movies, like Pirates of the Carribean, etc. with our daughter now that she is old enough to appreciate them and get all the humor. We also have a good time sharing our love of period films and older films with her. She is developing great taste!

This past year my daughter played football (secretly every father’s dream), wrote her first term paper (and got an ‘A’), started babysitting…a lot of growing has been done in this past year.

Mary and I love Tori so very, very much and are so happy with the girl who came into our lives a brief 14 years ago.

Please join me in wishing my daughter a Happy Birthday! And as I sit here typing this, comforted by my Han Solo replica blaster and Hellboy action figure, the answer to the obvious question is “Yes, I do feel old”!

“Watching your daughter being collected by her date feels like handing over a million dollar Stradivarius to a gorilla.” (not applicable yet…but it will be!)

  2. Happy Birthday, Tori!!!!

Wow! The past eight years have just flown by. It’s been so fun to watch you grow up!

You are a very pretty, fun, smart, responsible and Godly young woman. Now you have to keep that up so you can be a good mentor for my daughters!

You have done such a great job babysitting. Babysitting for me is like babysitting boot camp! I love coming home to such an orderly place with the trash taken out!!

Have a fabulous day!!! Don’t drink too much Warm Chocolate Velvet. You’ve seen what it does to us older women!!!

    Love ya bunches!!

I remember the day you were born,Grandpa and I couldn’t wait to get to Tulsa to catch our first glimpse of you- it was love at first sight! Each time we see you, you grow up a little more-we are very proud of you !!

Have a great day-wish we could spend it helping you celebrate. Again have a happy day!!!

  5. Happy Birthday Tori! It has been great getting to know you better this past year. I hope you have a wonderful day and your parents shower you with gifts! 🙂

  6. Yep, the D girls have given her a workout! We’re very thankful that the D’s are allowing Tori to ‘practice’ on their kids!

And here is Jules’ recipe that she references in her comments:

    Warm Chocolate Velvet

    Ingredients:
1 can evaporated milk (12 oz or 350ml)
    3 heaping tbs cocoa
1/4 cup golden syrup (you could use light corn syrup)
3 oz or 100 gms Ghiradelli semisweet baking chocolate, chopped
1/4 cup or 60 ml heavy cream
    1 tsp vanilla extract
    dash of cinnamon
    (optional) 2 tablespoons ginger syrup

Place everything except the heavy cream together in a small saucepan,
stirring occasionally, over medium low heat until the chocolate melts and
the liquid is heated through. (Don’t let it boil.) Add the heavy cream and
heat another minute or so. Pour into individual small cups. Makes
    approximately 4 five ounce servings.

  16. Lydia’s comment was very fun and cute.

You’re just getting ready to begin this journey ForgottenMachine! Its a fun, though sometimes hair-graying, experience!

In Tori’s defense, she needed to get ready to go as her cousin is taking her to a movie today. I miss…I mean I REALLY MISS…childhood summer vacation!
