Anna Nalick

I haven’t done any spotlights on music so I thought I’d start with an up and coming artist. Anna Nalick is getting ready to burst onto the music scene with her debut album Wreck of the Day which hits stores April 19th. I was listening to the radio last week and heard this song that I really enjoyed. The song was mostly piano and vocals and I’m generally drawn to that style of music. It turns out the song was Breathe and is Anna’s first single to get radio airplay.

On the surface Anna Nalick could easily be written off as just another in the long line of young, attractive female performers who currently litter the music landscape. What impresses me about her is that she she writes her own music and lyrics. She’s not just a pretty face cranked out by a corporation looking to make a quick buck. She credits Tori Amos and Fiona Apple as influences and she has a voice and musical style that not only calls them to mind but also artists like Sarah McLachlan and Charlotte Martin.

You can check out her website here and listen to the full version of Breathe. Her bio is an enjoyable read which chronicles her attraction to music at an early age and the almost unbelievable way in which her musical dreams became reality. You can also go to this site to listen to full versions of Citadel and Wreck of the Day in addition to Breathe. Wreck of the Day is a good, melancholy tune.

I’m looking forward to the release of this album and will be interested to see how her career progresses.

  1. I was a little hoodwincked by another good sounding artist I heard on the radio, Mindy Smith. I loved the first song, and it sounded even Christian (now I can’t think of the name) but the rest of it had swearing and was well, boring. I think I’ll stick to previewing cd’s in the music store or relying on my old 80’s standby’s. Not that you all listen to it but does anyone know any good techno music?

  2. That’s why I like to go to the artist’s website and listen to samples of their stuff to get a better idea of what the whole album will be like.

  3. if you’re into the chick-with-a-poetic-piano thing–and it seems you are–check out Regina Spektor. Her album came out this week or last. she’d got a pretty comprehensive website too.
