Quote found on this passionate and very excellent post by Al Harron that discusses critics, marekting, A Princess of Mars by Edgar Rice Burroughs and the recently released film John Carter.
I hope each and every one of you have a wonderful weekend filled with the pursuit of your passions.
Love this!! Thank you for sharing; an excellent thought for the weekend!
Isn’t it? I was thrilled when I read it and had to share.
I love this quote! It’s so apt, isn’t it: instead of arguing, just go to where you are welcome. How anyone could think Ray Bradbury isn’t cool, is beyond me, though!
RB is indeed cool!
I don’t know, but wouldn’t it be tempting to leave the dinosaurs there for a while?
(Ignore me. I seem to have a dark sense of humor this evening.)
Especially if they were hungry. π
I knew you’d understand.
It took a moment, but I got there with you.
Love that quote! Hope you have a wonderful weekend Carl!!
You too Chris!
Well I’m working all weekend and need to do my taxes so you can imagine how my weekend is going to go… I wish all of the rest of you happiness though. π
That isn’t “pursuing your passions”, I know, but I hope you still manage to have a nice weekend.
I love that quote – it’s a keeper! I’m going to store it away and use it (I might even pretend it’s all my own work!! LOL)
Lynn π
Have a great weekend.
I wouldn’t blame you Lynn! You have a great one as well.
that was really just lovely.
thanks for making me smile this morning!
I was pretty taken with it when I read it, Andrea, which is why I had to share. Glad you liked it too. π
After most of the day in the hospital yesterday, ANYTHING would make this a nice weekend! Plus the sun is out and the garden is calling!
Sorry, Richard, hope everything is going well now. Glad you have sun too since you guys seemed to have one of the few late winters that I’ve heard of. Its supposed to rain tonight but for the moment it is pretty lovely out. Unfortunately that means the lawn mower is calling my name.
We’ll do our first mow in a couple of weeks, probably. The lawn is just starting to green up and grow. We re-seeded this morning.
We are talking of Spring and mowing and my old home town of Norfolk, NE was buried temporarily under hail that looked like snow drifts over the weekend. The pictures and video were wild. I never saw anything like that growing up there. Wow!
Wonderful quote! I heard Bradbury speak once, and he was as down-to-earth and entertaining in person. Funny, but I was thinking this morning about how many people have prejudices against some of my favorite genres, especially science fiction. I’m reading Cryptonomicon at the moment (as well as a David Weber) and am totally entertained, informed, and satisfied.
That is so cool that you heard him speak.
There are certainly many people with silly, irrational and often snobbish prejudices against genre fiction. Their loss is all I can say.
I’m glad you are enjoying what you are reading. I need to finish the first Honor Harrington book soon. I got side-tracked mid-way through.
Love it, Love it, Love it π My weekend was lovely…but very busy π Hope you and your family had a wonderful one as well <3
Mine was both of those too, Kelly. Lovely but busy. It flew by even more quickly than normal, which is always a bit sad. Still, I’ll take a happy quick weekend over one of slow drudgery any day. π
I saw Ray speak in L.A. twice. The first time was at a small theater (less than 100 seats) production of three of his short stories, the most memorable being “The Veldt”. After the first story, he came on stage and spoke for about 20 minutes about his writing, the short stories and the process of translating them to the stage. Then he introduced “The Veldt” which he said was one of his favorites. I don’t even remember what the last story was, but “The Veldt” blew me away.
The second time was while I was taking a SF literature class at UCI (University of California at Irvine). The primary teachers were Larry Niven, Joe Haldeman and Jerry Pournelle. Ray was living in L.A. and drove down for one of the 2-hr. classes. That was one fascinating class!
Now that would have been an amazing class! Wow!!! Pournelle is the only one of those four I haven’t read and I have one or two of his collaborations with Niven on my shelves. Like the work of all the other guys!
I love that quote, will have to pass it on to my father he will really appreciate it π
Wow, how did I not see this sooner? That’s WONDERFUL!
