Etsy Week: Day Four

(She Held the Future in Her Hand)

And better late than never (Friday proved to be a FUUUULLLLL workday!) the final day of the very first (but not the last) Etsy Week is upon us. It is indeed Etsy Week: Day Four.

For the uninitiated (who are you people?!?!?!) Feel free to visit:

Etsy Week: Day One
Etsy Week: Day Two
Etsy Week: Day Three

We finish up this tour of a mere pittance of my Etsy Favorite Sellers (several more will be featured in the upcoming Fashion as Art Week!) with a couple more exciting shops.

The first artist on today’s tour is Liz Conway. Her etsy shop, Blue Gypsy, features originals and prints of her collage and painted art.

Etsy Week: Day Three

It is Day Three of Etsy Week and I have two more artists who occupy spaces on my list of favorite etsy sellers to share with you today.

But first, for those of you who may not have been around for the past few days and are wondering what an ‘Etsy Week’ is, please check out the following posts:

Etsy Week: Day One
Etsy Week: Day Two

You will want to check out both of those posts because doing so, and commenting, will get you in the running for an end of the week prize pack. More importantly you will discover the work of some wonderfully creative artists.

Let’s get started for today, shall we?

Parting is Such Bittersweet Sorrow

Above images by June Leeloo, Terri Windling, Charles Vess, and Jeanie Tomanek, respectively…click on each image to see larger/full version.

I cannot always keep up. I try to…I long to…but I miss it sometimes. I say this to admit that one of my very favorite places to visit on the web announced the closing of its doors on May 28th and I just found out yesterday. On top of how sad this makes me feel, I feel even worse that it took me a week to discover this.

I have been very open about my inspirations for this site over the years. Neil Gaiman’s journal was my first inspiration. His habit of sharing diverse, strange, interesting things was the template by which I tried to structure my site. Lisa Snellings-Clark was another inspiration. There was something about the work she was doing and her attitude about art and life that began to push me towards exposing myself, and readers, to more art. And then there was The Endicott Studio.

The Endicott Studio site, and later its blog, was the singular website I could point most strongly to and say that what they were doing was what spoke most to my heart. And now they are saying goodbye.

Etsy Week: Day One

(Steampunk Romeo)

I teased it previously and now the time has come: It is Etsy Week!!!

“Que?”

Perhaps an explanation is in order.

Etsy is an online marketplace for buying & selling all things handmade. Our mission is to enable people to make a living making things, and to reconnect makers with buyers. Our vision is to build a new economy and present a better choice:

Buy, Sell, and Live Handmade.

It is partially through the glorious temptations of Etsy that I discovered recent Friday Favorites

Rachael Direnna and Anne-Julie Aubry

Discovering one Etsy artist begets the discovery of more and many of these artists have works that, in my wide open imagination, blend elements of fantasy and fairy tale and science fiction and gothic imagery thus making them perfect for sharing during the final stretch of our Once Upon a Time II Challenge. And of course my goal is two-fold: to promote artists whose work I enjoy with the hope of exposing you to different types/styles of art while hopefully generating sales for said artists, and secondly to inspire you to tap in to your own creative streak, whatever that may be.

This week I will bring you several artists whose work is featured at the Etsy site. At the end of the week I will draw a name from the list of those who participate in each of the 4 Etsy Week posts to receive a fabulous Etsy Prize Pack. As a sneak peek, one of the items in that prize pack will be revealed at the end of today’s post.

Buckle up kids, here we go!
