I’ve tempered my Star Wars mania pretty well over the past few weeks as the seconds have ticked off the clock bringing us ever closer to Episode III: Revenge of the Sith. As I post this it is a little over 24 hours until the lights go down, the Fox theme begins blaring, followed quickly by the Lucasfilm logo, and then…the familiar music and the opening crawl… (of course there will be numerous trailers first but let me have my moment!).
Today I let my inner Star Wars geek out for awhile. I stopped by my friendly neighborhood Wal-mart to pick up a Star Wars t-shirt to wear to the movies and while I was there I picked up an Aayla Secura action figure as well. I later returned to Wal-mart (2 of them actually) and Target with my daughter as she attempted to find Star Wars boxer shorts for her and her friend to wear tomorrow night…it was an unsuccessful shopping adventure. I also picked up our pre-ordered tickets at the movie theatre for 2 reasons: I wanted them in my hands and I also wanted to see if the theatre had done anything yet to prepare for tomorrow’s geek onslaught…they had not, at least not anything obvious although I’m sure they’ll set up a roped-off area tomorrow.
We watched Episode II: Attack of the Clones just to whet our Star Wars appetites and then I downloaded wallpaper for my home and work PC. I decided to go with this one for the home PC:

and am going old school at work:

I’m also getting prepared to fire up Knights of the Old Republic on the PC as I’ll no doubt be in a Star Wars stupor for awhile!
I’ll be getting up early in the morning to pack my Geek Sack…comics, books, snacks, etc. to fill my time while waiting in line. Tomorrow will no doubt be a useless day at work as I ponder the perfect time to get to the theatre in order to get a good place in line, anticipate episode III, and think back on all my Star Wars memories. May the Force be with me….
I can’t wait until tommarrow night, too. I caught more of the Star Wars Clone Wars cartoons this past weekend on cartoon network and it just wetted my appetite for the new flick. Alas I have no SW gear, sorry Carl.
My favorite Sci-fi series Star Trek aired it’s last episode this past Friday ( which was a horrible episode ) and that has really bummed me out. I’m glad that this movie has come along just in time to pick me up.
It just turned midnight. So the 24 hour countdown has now officially begun!!!! God we’re geeks. π
Top Ten Reasons Why Star Wars Characters are Better…
10. In the Star Wars Universe weapons are rarely, if ever, set on “stun”.
9. The Enterprise needs a huge engine room with an anti-matter unit and a crew of 20 just to go into warp — The Millannium Falcon does the same thing with R2-D2 and a wookie.
8. After resisting the Imperial torture droid and Darth Vader, Princess Leia still looked fresh — After pithy Cardassian starvation torture, Picard looked like hell.
7. One word: Lightsaber
6. Darth Vader could choke the entire Borg empire with one glance
5. The Death Star doesn’t care if a world is “M” class or not.
4. Luke Skywalker is not obsessed with sleeping with every alien he encounters
3. Jabba the Hutt would eat Harry Mudd for trying to cut in on his action.
2. The Federation would have to attempt to liberate any ship named “Slave I”
1. Picard pilots the Enterprise through asteroid belts at one-quarter impulse power — Han Solo floors it.
Funny, Machine! π
Don’t worry Jeff, SW gear is not required for tonight’s viewing! Maybe you could fix your hair in the Princess Leia bagel style for tonight!
That top 10 was great. LOL hysterically. I’m there after LOST (can’t miss this one the freaky scientist girl comes out of hiding). Be there about 8:30. I’m looking forward to people watching. Has anyone sen Triumph the insult dog when he was at a SW premiere and someone dressed as Spock came inline with his middle finger up to the crowd? That was classic.
have fun tonight!
i’m not going till tomorrow afternoon at 3:45..
Carl was supposed to watch the kids friday so Julie and I could go.
He forgot. π
Here is that Triumph Star Wars video.
Nerd Bash
tonight, tonight (she sings).
the star wars is a little out of control over here.
i even had light saber dreams this morning.
Is that the sound of James’ crying that I hear? Just because I have to work Friday night to support my crack habit doesn’t mean that my character should be defamed in front of God and country! π
Actually James and Julie get to see this Thursday night because we are watching the stinkers then instead of Friday. oooo’s and ahhhhh’s accepted. π
That Triumph one is my favorite of all his, although the one with his visit to Quebec is also really funny. If you can rent the Triumph the Insult Comic Dog DVD it is well worth it, very, VERY funny!!!
Is a light saber dream considered a…cough, cough…romantic dream???? Any dream interpreters in the crowd?
I’m laughing as I read all these posts. I love Star Wars . . but not nearly as much as you guys do!!
These posts could all be done by 13 year old boys and would sound about right, but knowing our 30 something hubbies are writing this makes me laugh! I am not making fun of you, it is very endearing!
I think Freud would have a lot to say about a light saber dream, Carl. π
Dumb question — didn’t Sith open today? Thus, wasn’t the first midnight showing early this morning?
Carl’s a pervert. π I beat James to the snide comment!
Nope Rob, you are wrong. The opening date for ROTS is May 19th, which is tomorrow, thus making the 12:01 a.m. showing the first showing of the movie.
And I didn’t have the saber dream so why am I the pervert???? And just cuz I was the first to type it you all can’t deny thinking it!!!! π
And I love Karen’s “I’m not making fun of you” comment as she’s laughing at us and calling us 13 year olds….actually that’s kind of generous, I would’ve said 12 year olds!
Since my first introduction to the Star Wars universe was at a drive-in I may have to try to catch this at a local drive-in just to have a nice bookend to my memories!
that’s funny.. my first experience with star wars was at a drive-in too!
ooooooo, ahhhhhhhhhhhh
Thank you, Carl!! You guys are awesome!!! Three cheers for Carl and Mary! Hip, Hip, Hooray!!
*tongue sticking out* I didn’t think it, Carl!!!
We are just moments away from leaving to go to the theatre to camp out in line with all the other early arriving dorks. I checked about an hour ago and only 5 people were there. My poor daughter and her friend, they don’t know what they are in for!
