A Merry Cinematic Christmas

Every year for the past several years Kelly and I have come together on Christmas Eve to share something festive with you to close out the annual Virtual Advent Tour. It is something I look forward to doing with her every year. We generally try to do something fun and this year we decided to create crossword puzzles. This way you can have something seasonally appropriate to occupy a few minutes of your time while also working the little gray cells. The answers to all of my crossword puzzle questions have to do with Christmas movies, or films (like Die Hard) that I consider Christmas films because the holiday is featured in the movie. When I felt it was needed I have given you the name of the movie in parentheses after the related question. You can access the puzzle online here or if you want to utilize it for a family activity you can download it in PDF format to print here. Please be sure to visit Kelly’s site for hers. If you need answers to any of my questions, feel free to leave me a comment and I’ll shoot an email your way. Hopefully the easier ones will give you enough letters to help you get the more obscure ones.

Before I let you go off to your own celebrations, please let me offer you the very merriest Christmas. May you have time over the next few days to hug the necks of people you love and may all the stress that can come along with the day disappear in the warmth of get-togethers with family and friends. I am so thankful for another year in which I can sit here at my computer to send out virtual hugs and well wishes to all of you in this community. It is a privilege and a pleasure. Be safe, have fun, and have a very, Merry Christmas.

Tune in on Christmas Day for a special gift: the official announcement for the 2013 Sci-Fi Experience (or 2013 Science Fiction Experience if you are so inclined) with amazing art that one of my favorite illustrators has generously allowed me to use for the event this year.

  1. Thanks for all the effort that you have put into the blog and the read- alongs/challenges that you have created for us through the year. I have only participated in one so far but have enjoyed reading yours and other folks opinions on the others; and really look forward to joining in more in 2013.

May you and your family have a peaceful, joyous time over this festive season.

    1. Thanks Juno. Thank you for participating, that to me is the bigger commitment. Look forward to sharing 2013 with you. I wish the same for you and your family, Juno.

    1. Merry Christmas to you to, and please pass on my best Christmas wishes to Jason and the boys. Hope the day is a special one for all of you.

  2. Cool. Carol loves crosswords. And i have fun doing them with her and helping with the hardest ones. 🙂 Thats my joke because she gets most of them first.

    1. Yes, I think Mary is probably better at these kind of things than I am. Merry Christmas to you, Carol and Henry.

  3. Merry Christmas Carl! Thank you for the card and book marks! :o) I hope this Christmas is the best Christmas ever and you and Mary and Tori have a happy and healthy new year!!!

    1. Merry Christmas to you too Pat. Glad the card arrived safe and sound. Hope your holiday is wonderful!

  4. Naturally, I only got 3 or 4 each of across and down, but I’m hopeless with Christmas movies. Still, it was fun to read the clues. Thanks for all of your hard work on the blog, and for replying to nearly every comment made. That really makes a difference. Hope your holiday – including the whole family and friends – is tops this year, and that Santa brings a few nice surprises.

    1. Its always easier to think the clues are easy when you’ve just rewatched all those films. I was hoping it wasn’t too ridiculous. Thanks for playing at any rate.

I do my best to reply to all comments. Don’t always hit the mark but I do try. I know I appreciate interacting on blogs, not just dropping my comment and running away and so I always want to do my best to acknowledge the fact that people could be anywhere else besides here doing anything else. I appreciate the time you take to visit and comment here.

I hope Santa brings both you and Barbara surprises as well.

  5. Well, I didn’t get them all, but it was fun trying! Thanks for sharing the crossword with us, Carl. Merry Christmas to you and your family.

    1. Well don’t feel too bad, I didn’t get many of Kailana’s either! Was indeed fun trying.

  6. Thanks for the crossword. My husband, son, and I will try it out. We also consider Die Hard and Lethal Weapon Christmas movies.

I have been eagerly awaiting the announcement of the 2013 Sci-Fi Experience.

    1. Oh yes, I forgot about Lethal Weapon. Yep, that is one I consider Christmas as well.

  7. Merry Christmas to you and you family, Carl! We’re experiencing a White Christmas with much, much more snow on the way (over a foot predicted).

    1. Thanks George, the same to you and to yours. I do hope you enjoy your white Christmas, which I am very jealous of.

    1. I did, I hope you did as well. Very excited that you are joining in on the Science Fiction Experience! 🙂

  8. Merry Christmas to you and yours, Carl!! Thank you for all you do during the year, the challenges and experiences you host, and for your delight and wonder in books and reading. I hope 2013 is a good year for all of us. And I’ll be joining the SF Experience again, I enjoyed it so much last year. Happy Holidays, Carl!

    1. Thank you Susan, and the same to you, and of course a Happy New Year!

It really is my pleasure to give all of us these opportunities to virtually hang out together, and thank you for being a part of all of it.
