(Once Upon a Time, image by Anne-Julie Aubry)
Hello All! As sad as it is to admit it, it has been a week since my last post!
And I’ve missed you!
It has been a week of spring yard work, collecting a wicked case of poison ivy (the gift that keeps on giving), and being really busy at work—-a good kind of busy though, nothing to complain about.
Other than my romance with a bottle of Caladryl, I have been eyeball deep into Seth Godin’s new book, Linchpin, and more than any other book EVER I can barely resist underlining and writing all over it! I’ve resisted thus far, but there is a lot of book yet to read! Who is Seth Godin? Among other things, I will be posting about that soon as I have read two of his smaller books that I can’t wait to tell you about.
And, the next time you see the above image, it will be attached to a giveaway of some of Anne-Julie Aubry’s newest creations, all very fitting for the Once Upon a Time Challenge.
I wish everyone the very best of weekends and will bombard you with posts very soon! April is just about over, get some poetry in before it is too late! π
I LOVE the Anne-Julie Aubry creation. Just beautiful.
Up with Seth Godin !!! Just recently finished Tribes and I’m halfway through Purple Cow. Both are excellent reads for anyone in any line of work. Can’t wait to read Linchpin. Just write in the damn book already I wrote in one of James’s already. Julie was doing so I figured what the heck! π
Down with Poison Ivy… Boo!!!
I learned about Seth Godin when I first started blogging. He has some excellent ideas. I need to investigate his latest book.
We don’t have poison ivy over here, so I can only imagine (based on tv/film) your “gift” π
I’m now intrigued by this Seth Godin, but I’ll be patient and wait for your post as I’m sure you’ll do a far more thorough job than my idle googling would reveal.
That’s why I hate going outdoors. It always involves yardwork and inevitably poison ivy as well. Evil plant. Don’t know why no one’s made a weapon out of it yet.
AlexJ: Yes, those can definitely be drawbacks from the great outdoors! It would help if I actually noticed it beforehand and could have worked to avoid it. And, as my wife pointed out, it might have helped if I had actually listened to her and went in and washed immediately after I did notice it. π
Fence: Lucky you! I could send you some over if you want to try to get it started over there. I obviously have a good supply.
Susan: He does. His daily emails are good, bite-sized fun and his latest book is really excellent.
Jeff: Good for you! James will be thrilled. As for me, we’ll see.
Ooh that picture is gorgeous. Boo to poison ivy.
Poor you! I hope the poison ivy clears up soon. Fun fact that I only learned very recently: Mango peels have the same poisony chemical in them that poison ivy has. So stay away from unpeeled mangoes!
That’s a gorgeous picture, Anne-Julie Aubry’s things are always gorgeous. LOVE.
Sorry about the poison ivy! Yikes – no fun. Book sounds fabulous, though. I just requested it from the library (all copies out – must be good!).
Hope you are back in form… and what a lovely Anne-Julie image. ahhhhhhhhhhh once upon a time.
I just hope you didn’t get an itch, one you scratched, anyplace … sensitive.
I love the outdoors, but then I generally only go to civilized and cultivated places, my garden, parks, the beach, the Costco parking lot. You get the idea. We did some hiking in Alaska last year – no it was 2008 – but had no problems there, other than some cold rain down our necks.
On to reading:
1) You and your readers need to take a look at the post today (Friday April 23) on George Kelley’s blog. It’s the new Fritz Leiber collection just out from Night Shade Books. Find it here: http://georgekelley.org/
2) I’m not doing very good with the Once Upon A Time Challenge, having read just 3 books so far. (see my blog, the Reading Challenges page). I started a 4th, then got sidetracked with an old mystery – which is MY Friday Forgotten Book – and now am throughly off track. I did read a few pages of The Sword-Edged Blonde but got side tracked with vacation stuff and have not gotten back to it.
3) I do wish I could find the perfect reading lamp! We bought one of those Ott lamps with the daylight bulb in it, supposed to be perfect for reading. The blue-white light was so harsh it made me think of the old scenes in spy movies where the bag guys tie up Our Hero and shine the bright light in his face. “Who is your contact in Cairo?” they demand. We took the lamp back. No we have another one, but we’re not too sure if it’s just what we want. I might have picked something else, I think, but style was also an issue plus Wife insisted we get one that’s on sale.
Now to go put another coat of polyurethane on the new between-the-chairs book storage table we bought for under the new lamp!
don’t worry Carl I’m sure Pink is YOUR color!! *snicker*
Instead of Pink Floyd we have Pink Carl! *giggle*
Deslily: No, blotchy-pink is my color!!!
Richard: Sounds like you continue to have your own set of home improvement projects to work on. Hope you get the lamp situation resolved to both of your satisfaction soon. Reading shouldn’t be akin to torture. π
Thanks for the link, anything Fritz Leiber is worth checking out. I have a pile of Leiber books on my shelves that I have yet to read.
I’m doing alright with Once Upon a Time, but this first month have mixed in some poetry and nonfiction as well. No worries, there are two full months to go in the challenge, plenty of time to get some good reading in.
Qugrainne: All is well, have just been very, very busy. Hopefully you won’t have to wait too long for the book. Doesn’t surprise me that there is a waiting list though.
Jenny: Oh no, something else to dodge when I’m outdoors!!! π
Amanda: Anne-Julie has some really wonderful new images up and I look forward to being able to give a set of postcards away very, very soon!
oooo…that Anne-Julie Aubry creation is fantastic! I need to check her work out further.
I have not heard of Seth Godin, look forward to your post.
“romance with a bottle of Caladryl” Never heard it put quite that way before… π I do hope that romance will end soon for you.
That is one lovely image atop your blog. And don’t worry about having been away; it happens to all of us. Do worry about the poison ivy–ICK! Hope it is going away, quickly and itchlessly (buy stock in Calamine).
I’ve read Tribes by Godin recently and enjoyed it! I can’t wait to read your thoughts on Linchpin. Have a great weekend.
Vasilly: Tribes was my first. Wonderful! I then read Purple Cow and am not half way through Linchpin. I’ve gotten a partial post of a combo Tribes/Purple Cow review done and I’m undecided on whether to finish it and post it or wait until I’m done with Linchpin and just do one big Seth Godin lovefest post.
ds: Isn’t it? I was so excited when she released this new work, and not just for the self serving reasons of how it was a Once Upon a Time image. And thanks, its getting better.
ibeeeg: Romance seemed the most appropriate term for the fact that lots of time has been spent rubbing the contents of that bottle all over my bod! π
I absolutely love all the lovely art that you find on the etsy site. I need to spend some time surfing there myself.
I recently learned that my summer plans have changed which means that I will have more time for pleasure reading. I immediately thought of the Once Upon a Time Challenge and look forward to participating, at least at the “journey” level.
Great Molly, will love to have you participating. Etsy is a fantastic place, isn’t it? And an easy place to lose one’s self control and spend, spend, spend. π
