Interview with a Vampire Author, Part the Fourth

If you’ve been with me over the course of the last couple of years you are well aware that I have become a fan of Colleen Gleason’s Gardella Vampire Chronicles novels and for each successive release have done a review of the book as well as an interview with the author. If you missed the previous interviews or would just like a recap, feel free to visit them (click on the interview for the, er, interview and the book title for a link to the book review):

Interview with a Vampire…Author (The Rest Falls Away)

Interview with a Vampire Author, Part Deux (Rises The Night)

Interview with a Vampire Author, Part the Third (The Bleeding Dusk)

Trust me on this, the previous interviews are all really fun and worth reading, or re-reading as the case may be. If you are unsure of the type of books The Gardella Vampire Chronicles are, I think Colleen sums it up best with this quote from the first interview:

“The book straddles the tenets of most genre fiction. It’s not a horror novel, it’s not a romance, it’s not historical fiction. It’s an amalgam of all three, with some suspense, humor, adventure and history all tossed in with a bit of a love story.”

And today, Tuesday August 5th 2008 is the release day for the fourth book in the series, When Twilight Burns!!!

In honor of ‘release day’ I am going to break form a bit and include both my interview and a mini, non-spoiler review of the book!

Book Pron of a Different Kind

Most of us have seen what has come to be known, by many, as Book Porn. Defined roughly as the guilty pleasure pictures that bloggers post of their latest book treasures, book porn is a lot of fun.

Taking a cue from the gaming industry I’m going to twist this a bit and give you some Book Pron! Today’s post features a baker’s dozen, plus one, of upcoming releases that I simply have to have. In many cases I have already pre-ordered these books.

My hope is to share my excitement about some upcoming titles and maybe, just maybe, grab myself a few more points on Debi’s list.

For each book I provide a link, the planned release date, an italicized blurb about the book borrowed from the link site, and occasionally my own commentary.

This first book is:

Otherworldlies ~Jennifer Anne Kogler

June 17

Fern communicates with her dog, blisters from just moments in the sun, and has correctly predicted the daily weather for more than two years. Even so, she’s always seemed to be a normal twelve-year-old girl . . . until one day when Fern closes her eyes in class and opens them seconds later on a sandy beach miles away from school. When Fern disappears again, this time to a place far more dangerous, she begins to realize exactly how different she is.

I just stumbled across this book, and the author’s site, the other day but the cover image drew me in and the story sounds interesting. I must admit that I feel a bit strange about the cover image in regards to it representing a story about a 12 year old girl. Maybe I’m getting old, but that admittedly cute girl does not look 12 to me. That oddity aside, I plan on checking this out.

Once Upon a Time II

“What if all the myths were true…”
~Liu Kang

Once Upon a Time….

Four small words. Combined together they wield a power unmeasured–the power to take one on a journey, the power to transform a life, the power to inspire and comfort, the power to connect a large group of diverse people over a common theme.

Once Upon a Time…

It is a beginning, but written as such denotes an ending as well. This happened before, in another place, at another time, with people who no longer exist, or may never have existed in the first place.

Once Upon a Time…

For me these four words conjure images of four classifications of story: Fantasy, Folklore, Fairy Tales, and Mythology. These four classifications, or genres, or subgenres of story can exist separately or in various combinations but their one common factor in my mind is that they can all very easily begin:

Once Upon a Time
