Or a Magnesium Pearlcoat lining, to be more exact.
I mentioned to some of you in a weekly email (and possibly here on the blog) that this new WordPress theme seemed ironically attractive to me considering the image of a rusted car on a site entitled ‘Stainless Steel’ Droppings. What I may not have mentioned was that our recently paid off automobile decided to leave our indentured servitude to go to that great junkyard in the sky…or at least somewhere in the Kansas City area.

My uncle is a car dealer and off and on throughout the years when I have needed a vehicle my dad contacts my uncle to see what he has available. We certainly did not relish making another car payment but the generous discount my uncle provided for us made this car too good to pass up.
Saturday morning found me traveling by Greyhound bus for the three hour trip to Omaha, NE so that I could meet my parents and pick up our new car: a 2006 Dodge Charger.
Though they look nothing alike, there is something that makes me almost giddy about owning a car descended from the great General Lee:

It is a beautiful car that rides like a dream and is great fun to drive. Public thanks to my father and my uncle for their work in finding us a car with a muscle car mystique and the practicality and room for a family to enjoy.

Book Week was an unqualified success. Those of you who participated, whether in one post or all of them, brought wonderful thoughts, and sometimes links, to the discussion and I thoroughly thank you all for being so enthusiastic and faithful.
Before we get to the Book Week prize pack let me tell you a bit about what is coming up. The Art of Fashion Week is coming up soon–trust me, it will be much cooler than it may sound. I will also be featuring Etsy Week in which I will feature incredible artists whose work I discovered thanks to Rachael Direnna’s introducing me to the world of Etsy. Both week’s will maintain some ties to the ongoing Once Upon a Time II Challenge and both ‘weeks’ will have wonderful related prize packs, so please plan to participate.
I was graciously reminded this week that (in the midst of my car woes) I forgot to draw a winner from those who participated in the Friday Favorites: Nicolleta Ceccoli discussion. The prize was this beautiful copy of The Girl in the Castle inside the Museum

I thumbed through it, gently, and it is knock-your-socks-off beautiful. So much so that I turned around and ordered a copy for myself.
The lucky winner of that prize is…..
Lisa of Booknotes by Lisa!!! Congratulations Lisa. Please send an email to cvincent68 (at) comcast (dot) net to give me your address.
And now, for the Book Week Prize Pack. Actually there are two prize packs for this one. The Book Week Grand Prize Pack goes to:
Heidi, your winnings include:

–A new hardback copy of Ursula Le Guin’s book, Gifts.
–A copy of Horns and Wrinkles, written by Joseph Helgerson, illustrated by Nicoletta Ceccoli.
–A girl reading mini-bookmark and a pin, artwork/creations by Anne-Julie Aubry.

–a medium sized print from Friday Favorite artist: Rachael Direnna.
–a Duirwaigh Gallery card featuring one of my favorite images from Greg Spalenka.
–An Amelie ‘thank you’ postcard from Friday Favorite: Anne-Julie Aubry
–The new Flight Explorer Volume 1 graphic novel filled with short illustrated comic book style tales that are all ages appropriate. There are some really great artists in this one.

–The Persephone Books catalog
–A Persephone Books bookmark
–The Image Cascade catalog
–The Small Beer Press catalog
(all of these catalogs have fantastic art in them and very interesting text)
–Issue Number Eleven of Electric Velocipede magazine.

And a copy of Issue 14 of Electric Velocipede, autographed by cover illustrator Lisa Snellings-Clark.
The Honorable Mention Book Week Prize Pack goes to:
Susan Flynn of You Can Never Have Too Many Books!!!
To test that theory she receives:

–A copy of Horns and Wrinkles, written by Joseph Helgerson, illustrated by Nicoletta Ceccoli.
–A Persephone Books bookmark
–a medium sized print from Friday Favorite artist: Rachael Direnna
–And a tiny cat card from Friday Favorite: Anne-Julie Aubry
Congratulations to both of you and do not forget to email me your mailing addresses. I once again want to thank everyone for the amazing participation this week and I hope to see all of you back to participate in the other upcoming theme weeks as well as any other day to day posts that might suit your fancy.
I hope everyone has a wonderful Monday! I know I will be a distracted mess all day today as I wait with excitement to go see Glen Hansard and Marketa Irglova (of the film ‘Once’). We watched the film for a second time last night and showed it to our daughter so that she would be more prepared and psyched for the show. It should be great fun!
Don’t forget to check out my review of Iron Man in the post below this one.
This post just so happens to be post number 666. I hope that isn’t a bad omen! π
Big congrats to all the winners!! What awesome prize packs! And congrats to you and the fam for that car! It’s one fine lookin’ piece of machinery π Enjoy it and enjoy yourselves tonight at the concert!
Oh my!!!! I NEVER win prizes!!!!! (I just told my husband and he said “and when was the last time YOU won something in a contest?” – so that clinches it π ) Thank you VERY much!!!
Will be e-mailing you with my US snailmail address shortly – no point in posting it to the UK when we’ll be moving in a few weeks.
I’m so excited!!
Great prize packs! Congrats to the winners!
Carl I think I somehow overlooked your Nicolleta Ceccoli post, will have to correct that today! I love the book cover, and think I will have to grab that one for myself!
Nice new car!
awesome car, and congrats to the winners! very cool prizes π
Congrats to the winners! Carl, you sure do know how to put together a prize package!!!
And I must tell you, you made Rich’s morning…he walked in here while I was reading your post, looked at the screen, and exclaimed with pure glee in his voice, “The General Lee!”
Enjoy your new car! It’s a beauty!
Great ride! We are paying off our mazda protoge next month and I am just waiting for some sort of epic THING to occur, forcing us to replace it. Oh, I hope not, I hope not, I hope not…
Wow ! Those are some prize packages! Congratulations to both winners!!
Thankfully I am only a “little jealous” lol.. I am awaiting my copy of Horns and Wrinkles from Amazon, but I’ve only been “eyeing” Ursula’s Gifts book! lol
Fabulous Prize Packages!!!!!
I am immensely jealous that you are going to the Once folks live . . . do enjoy the show for me, too.
Andi: We will!
Deslily: I am looking forward to reading Horns and Wrinkles myself. It was a pretty darn good prize from Amazon.
Courtney: I will hope for you as well!
Debi: That cracks me up. Gotta love the General Lee.
Bookworm: Thanks.
Quixotic: You’ll enjoy it, she’s incredibly talented.
Heidi: Congrats again! And you’re moving over here, eh? What’s that all about?
Chris: Thanks, we will on both counts.
Congratulations to the winners! And, I saw a girl in my class reading Horns and Winkles, just ordered a copy from amazon.com and am reading it out loud for everyone’s benefit. It’s a very charming book! I’ll post a review of it as soon as we finish, but I can see what a lovely addition it makes to your prizes packs. Hmmmm, you’re not including that so-wonderful-who-has-words-for-it Charger in a package are you? My husband would die for it, you lucky dog!
Hey, I want to participate in these week events and all. I think that Art of Fashion Week is going to be really interesting. However I am not quite sure I know what Etsy week is actually or Etsy for that matter. Beautiful prizes!
Yum, yum! Congratulations to the winners of all this delicious stuff!
Congradulations! You guys are so lucky. I love Horns and Wrinkles, it’s a really good young adult book. Carl, your car is beautiful.
Congrats the winners!
I am the real winner though with my beautiful new car! It drives like a dream.
Mary: I thought you were the real winner because you had me! π
Vasilly: I look forward to reading it, it sounds intriguing.
JenClair: π
Harry: You definitely need to stay tuned, all will be revealed!!!
Bellezza: No, my wife wouldn’t be happy if I threw the Charger in on the prize pack. I look forward to your review of Horns and Wrinkles.
Congrats to the winners! Enjoy yourself tonight at the concert as well.
A huge “Hooray!” to you lucky winners!
Carl – So, how fast does it go? Are you transporting Moonshine? (grin!)
Congratulations to the winners!
Your new car looks great.
THANK YOU! This is the second prize I won (I won the guessing prize at Eva’s by default)….this after having one a t-shirt once in a contest and nothing else, ever! so Thank you! I love the little cat card, the art print looks fabulous (I will be the envy of many friends), I haven’t heard anything about the book but will gladly read it (and trusting to those who want it, from other comments, it should be good!) – the illustrations look really beautiful….okay I’m very happy to have won a book, never mind the whole prize!! And the bookmark…as well as beautiful, it will be used very happily. Thank you, Carl! this was very very generous of you.
About your new car: congratulations. Very nice car, and I don’t even drive, but your car makes me want to!!! ** to your wife: isn’t it good to have a car everyone likes?
I’ll email you my address, Carl. I have a big smile, I am so delighted, but you know what? I loved all the entries you made, because I found two new book presses and have seen so much fantastic fantasy art on your site, that I feel like I get a present whenever I come to your site! Thanks, Carl! and I hope you enjoy the concert tonight!
We’re moving because of a. ridiculous house prices that mean that we’ll NEVER buy a house in this country unless we pay off our student loans, b. my parents, who will let us live rent-free in their lovely downstairs flat, and c. the chance to give my parents and my son the chance to spend a few years close together rather than far apart.
And, you know, because Seattle weather is SO much better than Manchester weather π
wow, those are amazing prize packs! Congratulations to the winners π
Congrats to the winners, and to you Carl for getting such a beautiful new car! Altho’ I really like the rusted out jalopy in your header photo, too.
Thanks for hosting Book Week – it was lots of fun. And Persephone Books is a great discovery.
Wow! Thanks Carl. This made my day!
Thanks for Book Week, it was great fun – so many new links to follow up on!
I can’t wait to read your thoughts on the Glenn and Marketa show, they are incredible performers
Congratulations, winners! :] Enjoy your delicious prizes.
That’s a nice looking car – very sporty.
Congrats to the winners! Some great prizes!
Wow! Congratulations to the winners! And congratulations to you, Carl, on your beautiful new car! Love the color!
Download The Dukes of Hazard theme song now and play it loudly when you show up to work.
We’re only on chapter 9 of Horns and Winkles, but it’s captured all those listening in Bellezza’s classroom. The premise is that Ducks, a boy bully, has himself been tossed into the river by two older bullies. He emerges with a rhino horn which only grows everytime he does something mean. Apparently, there are River Trolls (and Rock Trolls) which cause this river to have fantastical qualities…we’re waiting to see how, or if, he recovers.
And, you know I’m teasing about the car. The only proper home for such a Charger would be Chez Carl.
Very cool car, Carl! I had no idea the new Chargers looked so elegant.
Les: it is sort of like driving a luxury car. My days with it are over for awhile though, my wife will be assuming driving duties tomorrow to return to work and I’ll be back to my much loved, but not nearly as smooth riding, pickup.
Bellezza: I am so glad to hear it is a hit!!! Oh I know. I might as well though for as little as I’ll be driving it now.
;(
Cameron: That is a fantastic idea. Think my wife would let me paint it orange and throw an 01 on it? I know she wouldn’t go for the confederate flag or welding the doors shut. Maybe she would let me put dynamite arrows in the back though…
Robin: Thanks, it is cool how the pearl coat really makes it change hues depending on the light. It has a real gray-green look to it sometimes.
Shannin: It feels sporty, thanks.
Orchidus: Just to make sure you don’t confuse the winners…the books are for digesting, but not eating… π
Ken: I cannot wait to write it up. But it will be in the morning. They wore me out! Wow!!!
Lisa: You’re very welcome, congratulations.
jlshall: I’m glad you enjoyed Book Week. It was a heck of a lot of fun to do. The rusted jalopy doesn’t ride quite as well as the new car.
Mymeth: They were fun to put together.
Heidi: I’ve been to Seattle once, to hang out and to see Tori Amos in concert. It is a great city.
Susan: Congrats again, I’m so happy for you. I enjoyed reading your comments in the Book Week posts.
Nicole: Thanks! π
Rachael: We may just be runnin’ shine in there. But the location of the still is a secret.
Jeff: I look forward to telling you about the concert. It was great.
Hey, pickups are cool, too. Especially if you have your dog riding shotgun.
We always seem to be in the market for a new car. Thank goodness my husband doesn’t tire of his wives as quickly as he does his vehicles! We’re currently lusting after Jeep Wranglers. I have a feeling we’ll have to arm wrestle each other for the keys, although I can always drive it when he takes his motorcycle to work.
I’m diggin’ the new look. Niiice.
Thanks Wayne!
Les: My tiny dog isn’t much for shotgun riding, but he’s getting there.
I’ve never been big on switching vehicles. I’m sure it is just because I don’t have the gumption to do so. I am much more of a ‘buy it and drive it ’til it drops’ kind of person.
Friend of Dan (Obscurorant) and two things of note: 1. You and I have the exact same car, same year, same color and 2) I am so mad at myself for missing out on such gorgeous publications. I need to pay much better attention. It does give me new books to add to my list for my little girl, though.
That is so funny Heather. It is a small world. Wonderful car, isn’t it? (If you don’t think so, humor me and lie) π
Come back often, there are more giveaways to come starting next week.
Great contest. It was really fun and informative. Now I’ve gotta’ get busy with the challenge reading!
