I’ve been wanting to do a spotlight on Duirwaigh Gallery (pronounced “doorway”) for some time and now feels like the right time as the story of Angi Sullins and how she followed her dreams ties in to the theme of the posts of the last few days. I won’t regurgitate all the details of how Angi overcame a devastating tragedy to make her dream a reality. That can be found here in the Where We Started section. It is a very inspiring story.
I stumbled across this site when I was searching for artwork by Kinuko Y. Craft, the cover artist for one of my favourite fantasy authors, Patricia A. McKillip. The artwork featured at Duirwaigh Gallery is very fantastical in nature. Here you will find angels and mermaids, fairies and dragons, knights and fair maidens…the images of chivalry and mythology all crafted by some of the most amazing fantasy artists working today.
Angi Sullins has done what we all have the potential to do. She has taken her passion and made it a reality. She did not do it alone, nor can we, but she had the courage to rise above her tragedy and enlist the help of those whom she knew shared her vision. Duirwaigh Gallery is more than just this website as you’ll see when you read about the whole of her vision. In addition to the amazing artwork on this site there is a flash video that they made which not only serves to give a sampling of the art on this site but is actually an encouraging message to reconnect with the excitement of your youth and open the door to the creative impluse that is inside you. The music that accompanies this piece was created specifically for it and is very beautiful, celtic-style music. I would encourage you to watch THIS. Even if this type of art is not your thing I think you will understand, in light of recent posts and comments, how this video speaks to the need many of us have expressed to open the door to our dreams.
*a word of warning: mermaids and fairies generally make below minimum wage and clothing is not always a priority.
My six year old, Lydia, is home sick today. I think she looked at every painting on the site. She was very fascinated.
Lydia has an eye for art. I love her artistic little self.
Yes, she’s quite the little artist. Hopefully her teachers will encourage her in that because she has some natural talent.
Speaking of art and creativity, please go over to Scifi Chick’s site (in my blog links) and read her latest post about her site’s color scheme and give her feedback. That’s all for this public service announcement. Thanks, and now back to your regularly scheduled blogging…
I will never understand how people can have that kind of talent.
I have no talent, unless picking your nose counts.
lol thanks for that little plug, carl.. much obliged.
and just do what you do best, james…
Counter Tops is about it.
James, you failed to mention that you grill the best meat ever!
I can’t wait for an invite for grilled pork chops this summer.
I think your good at a lot of things 🙂 !!!!!!
You are a great dodo (dad of daughters only) !!!!! They think you can do it all. Even pro basketball!!!
You are an awesome husband!!!!!
I think you are becoming a really good businessman. I think you’ve found your niche!!!
You’re an all around good guy but your not intimidated by people. I’ll never forget you getting in that social workers face and raising your voice!! You are NOT afraid to stand up for what you think is right.
You are a Godly man.
I wouldn’t trade any of those things for the talent those artists have!!!!
I don’t know Julie, I think I’d see what I could get for that pro basketball career of his….
Good point!
Jimmy, your wife is right. You always were fearless, and that amazed me. Remember when you were reffing basketball? I was watching an MCA game and you were there calling the game. Emmet Kolster was heckling the heck out of you, and you finally walked over with a T-bird! That was the most glorious moment, watching this young skinny ref, getting no respect, completely silencing the crowd.
Julie’s right, You stand up for what you believe and you tell people the hard truth. That’s a quality that VERY FEW guys have these days (I’m guilty of being too passive).
Aww, you guys are sweet!
To this very day Emmet hates me, lol. I told him if he didn’t shut up I was going to toss him out of the building.
I can’t look at anyone enjoying peaceful sleep.
Is that THE Tommy Boy?!?!?!
Yeah it’s me. I am getting a little bored watching movies at work, so I’d thought I’d check yours and James site out. I didn’t realize I could put my name in “name” because karen always wrote. This is just good cheesy fun.
Glad you’re here!
