Oscar nomination day was not something that I was particularly excited about this year. Unlike the last few years there is a noticeable absence of truly great movies this year. The 2 movies that I really enjoyed, Finding Neverland and Phantom of the Opera, are movies that I knew would garner nominations but that I honestly don’t believe will win Oscars. That being said I was disappointed that Phantom was ignored in the Best Picture category and even more disappointed that Emmy Rossum‘s magnificient performance as Christine Daae was overlooked for a best actress nomination. Her performace was truly memorable, all the more so considering the fact that she was just 16 years old when shooting began. On the radio this morning I heard an interview in which Ms. Rossum genuinely expressed how wonderful it would be to receive a nomination and I’m very sorry that her performace was not acknowledged by the Academy.

That chick is hot but not as hot as you are.
I agree with you. I was very disappointed there weren’t more nominations, particularly for Emmy! I have seen the movie twice this week and am going back on Sunday! I’ve seen Phantom the musical 5 times, in 3 different cities, and have read the book, seen the other movie versions, and have been listening to the Broadway soundtrack since the late 80’s. I didn’t think I would like the new Phantom, but he’s growing on me. I’m glad they went with a romantic hero rather than realism. I just love the swishy thing he does with that cape! I thought his voice got better as the movie went on…he did a lot of acting with his eyes, and through a mask! I could find some flaws (Mme Guirey and Phantom should be roughly the same age, and she appears about10 -15 years older), but the music still gave me chills, and the cemetary scene was fantastic! I loved how they redid the ending (chandelier at the end and the opera house burning). It should definitely win for best art direction (I think that was the nomination?) I wonder if it would have made a difference if the actors weren’t unknowns. I’m surprised at the number of people I’ve talked to that have never even seen the musical. That’s about as sad as someone who’s never had chocolate. By the way, Hi Carl! (waving)
Okay, I did it! and it really was as easy as you said. The new sight is an improvement – I liked the black, I guess. I’m grieved, but not surprised that Phantom didn’t get any major nominations. Now I think I’ll hope for Kate.
Does this let me post a pic?
You can use HTML so I’m sure you can post a pic in your comments. 😀
Here is a site Carl should add to the links around here. Just a little help page on using HTML.
Warbach.com
Quit bossing me around. 🙂
Well, I want to post a pic, not link it! James, your link lost me after the first line of goobledeeguk! Carl needs to learn, but I fear that’s an Axis 2 personality type talking in his response back to you…
We think you really missed it Carl. You didn’t even consider Jinx the cat from, Meet the Fockers. If any actor deserves an Oscar it’s that clever cat. You know how hard it is to flush a toilet without oposable thumbs. We still love you though. Got to go, paws are getting sore tell Rascal hi.
Dear Murfee and Winston, my name is Razz, short for Razzleflacker. Rascal is my owner’s friend Alissa’s dog. Hello to you too.
