For those of you who have been sharing comments on the Poppet Planet thread: The Key is the Thing: The Art of the Symbolic, I encourage you to check out the work of photographer/web designer Thorii Pablo. You can see his work on his blog site and many more interesting photographs on his flickr site, many of which, I feel, fit into some of the symbolic, iconic imagery we are talking about in that post.
He has some pictures of old typewriters that I just love and his Red Phone Society pictures are a very fun concept.

For those of you who have already secured your place in the running for poppet adoption:

by registering and commenting on the Poppet Planet forum, thanks! Not only have we tremendously increased the membership on the site but some wonderful and amazing discussion has been going on in the past 24 hours.
For those of you who have not yet done this, don’t delay! You have until noon on Monday to do so and get entered into the poppet drawing. More details in yesterdays post (second half of the post)
A few of the many interesting discussions that are occuring over there:
The Key is the Thing: The Art of the Symbolic: touching on the icons, the symbolism, the plot devices, the ‘things’ that draw you into certain books, art, films, etc.
Guilty by Association: A discussion on the role of the consumer in regards to the work of individuals whose personal stances, political leanings, religious affiliations (or lack thereof), prejudices, etc and whether or not those things should influence our enjoyment of said creator’s work. Very interesting!
300 Sins and the Art of Violence: A discussion on whether or not violence in film is art, what level of violence is acceptible, etc.
To film, or not to film, that is the question: on whether beloved books should be made into movies and various thought on this subject.
And those are just in the section I moderate, The Machine.
There is a really fun thread, What do you love to do? What do you wish you loved to do? going on in the Spare Parts section of the site. There are threads on collage, photography, kinetic sculpture and so much more in the Nuts and Bolts, Gears Too section. And there is so much more going on over there.
Get thee to the Poppet Planet, register, and share your thoughts with the rest of us! Orphaned poppets need your help…simply sign up and post and you could make a difference (or send a check for $1,000,000 to Stainless Steel Droppings…..)

Have a great Thursday, all!
I’ve been slacking on posting reviews for the OUaT Challenge. π
No slacking!!! π
Oh I love those pictures of the typewriters. I wish I had one of those old models. I’ve just started my second book for my OUAT challenge. Yay!
An old typewriter like that is one of the things Mary and I will be looking for on our anniversary bed and breakfast trip next week. I’m excited and hope we find one.
love that pic of the lock & old door…looks a bit scary!
I was thinking of you as I looked at the pics on his flickr site, Janet. Thinking you’d probably enjoy them.
ooh, I feel like my head is spinning. Miss a few days and you miss a lot here. Where do you find all the time?
I only sleep about 6 hours a night, for one thing! And I don’t watch alot of tv.
Oh, reviews! Er……
I’m going to have to post a pic of my typewriter. I love it, I can’t get rid of it, but I can’t use it anymore either. I lack the muscular strength needed. Those people in the old days, *suffered*.
oh, do, I’d love to see it!
Wow, his typewriter pics are so cool! Photography is an old passion of mine that I forgot about for awhile and I really miss it. It’s great to see some amazing photography like that.
I haven’t had time to check out the website to see the typewriter, but I love the padlock photo. Thank you for posting this Carl!
I love old typewriters. I notice that now they’re making the letters and numbers into bracelets. Very cool! And by the way, Carl, the check is in the mail.
Those are some awesome photos, Carl! π
Also, I don’t know about everyone else, but I’m enjoying the discussion over at Poppet Planet. The only thing I can think of that would make it better is if we could be having it over a nice hot beverage or two. π
that’s low, RB…that’s low! π
I’ll be looking forward to that check, Pat.
Low? Is there something wrong with hot beverages? *perplexity*
Hi Carl! Hi All!
Thank you very much for using my photos to illustrate the discussion. IΓβΓΒ΄m very happy for that π
I just discovered this page through my website statistics system, came here for curiosity and discovered a world of interesting discussions and information.
Thank you for all the nice comments and credits.
Hope to contribute more in the future π
Thorii
PS: I was Astronomy teacher before the web development career and love a lot sci-fi movies! π
Glad you liked it Thorii, I was excited to come across your website and your flickr photos. Great stuff!
Would love to have you come by anytime and add your thoughts to the comments. I, of course, love astronomy and all things sci-fi and am excited that you have that background!
