10:4 Challenge and More

“You have to stay in shape. My grandmother, she started walking five miles a day when she was 60. She’s 97 today and we don’t know where the hell she is.”
~ Ellen DeGeneres

For those of you who read about and signed up for the 10:4 Challenge (and for those who don’t know what I’m talking about, read about it and feel free to join in) here are some banners for your site:

This should really be fun and encouraging as a group exercise. Best wishes to us all…after all, we stay healthy and that’s more time to squeeze a few more books in! 😉

The first Poppet Giveaway of the Once Upon a Time Challenge is here!!!

As I mentioned the other day, a few of the little red poppets came into my possession through the ebay auction of Lisa Snellings-Clark. Which, by the way, is continuing as we speak, so pop over there and read all about it.

Though they have not yet arrived, I am receiving word through the Underground Poppet Grapevine that they are pining for new homes. And so, the first Poppet is now up for adoption.

And what must you do to prove yourself a qualified parent?

Simply visit Poppet Planet, register*, and join in the discussion regarding symbolism and plot devices and what they mean to you. I just put up this discussion thread regarding what things in stories or films excite you, what symbolic imagery or what items used for symbolic meaning excite you. I’ve given some examples of what I mean in the post.

If you’ll do this you will not only be putting your name in the hopper for a chance to provide a nice home for a lost and lonely poppet, but you’ll be doing me a big favor as well. I have the least responses in my section of Poppet Planet and in the spirit of competition I want to get those numbers up!

So that is it! Just click on the icon below to visit Poppet Planet by Monday, High Noon, at which time I will pick a winner.

When you get there, register, visit the section entitled, The Machine (the section I moderate), where you’ll find my post entitled The Key is The Thing: The Art of the Symbolic and leave a comment or two. Or just just click here to go there directly if you prefer the simpler route. Feel free to come back here to let me know that you’ve done it…although I’ll automatically know when I see your post over there. While there don’t hesitate to visit all the other great sections. It is a fun site that is only just beginning to find its way.

Don’t let this little red poppet go through life parentless. Sign up today!

*If forums are a new concept to you and you need assistance registering, don’t hesitate to ask for help.

  1. They fit in really well with the Once Upon a Time Challenge, and the fact that Poppet Planet is just getting up and running AND Lisa is having her first sale for the year kind of make Poppets a priority right now.

That and they are fun little things.

  2. Even poppets pine for Mom over Dad. Dad’s take the back seat again! 🙂

  3. Just an fyi, if you have already registered for Poppet Planet you can still leave a comment on the post during this time period to be included in the poppet drawing.

  4. I’ve been meaning to join the forums at Poppet Planet – thank you for giving me extra motivation!

I’ve just posted my contribution to the discussion.

Good luck to everyone joining the 10:4 Challenge!

  5. You know, I meant to register at Poppet Planet last time it came up…but being the absent – minded person I am, I needed a reminder. 🙂

(And I agree – that captioned poppet just kills me with its adorability.)
