Update at the end of post
At the start of the month I set down this day, the 26th, as a day in which I was anticipating the addition of new treasures to my life. A trip to Barnes and Noble with a stop at the next door Best Buy netted me these:
and
While there I remembered that Holly Black’s sequel to Tithe came out in the trade paperback version today which is the version I wanted to match my copy of Tithe and so I picked that up as well:
(You can click on any of the above images to go their respective links)
Not too bad for a day’s haul. Fast and the Furious: Tokyo Drift also came out today and while I didn’t want to spend money on it in the theatre and I don’t want to own it I do want to Netflix it soon as it looks like a fun, popcorn movie.

I have mentioned on more than one occasion that I am very excited about the December release of Guillermo Del Toro’s latest creation, Pan’s Labyrinth. I bring it up again today because there is finally a proper trailer for it on the web here and because Neil Gaiman was able to see a sneak preview of the film recently and his description of the film as “an astonishing film. It’s an uncompromisingly adult film, with a child and her fairy tale inset into it as a contrast and echo” only makes me more anxious to see it.
And while we are speaking of December releases:

Check out this trailer for the movie Eragon, based on the first of the Inheritence Trilogy novels of Christopher Paolini. Not a bad looking film for a book based on a story written when the kid was just 15 years old!
By now it is nigh on Wednesday, so happy hump day everyone! Update: If you are in need of a good laugh this Wednesday then head over to Suzanne’s site and watch this. It is work appropriate.

Hey James, if you recognize the girl in the Eragon trailer it is because she was the brunette in Resident Evil: Apocalypse.
I’m really looking forward to Pan’s Labyrinth too. It looks really good in the trailer.
And Tokyo Drift is perfect for a fun, no-brain popcorn film.
Can you bring Lake House to Nebraska with you? I would love to see it.
Yes Mom we can, I think you guys would like it.
ooh.. loved Lake House.. will have to run out & buy it.
and am really excited about Eragon.. Pan’s Labyrinth looks great too
Eragon looks great! I couldn’t get the trailer for Labyrinth to work.
I’ll be sure to have James check out your post today.
Thanks for the heads-up on these, I’m adding them to my listings.
Can’t wait to see both of those movies. Keri’s read both of the Eragon books and really enjoyed them. I also want to see The Lakehouse. The covers of both Fragile Things and Valiant are each wonderful.
Wow, Eragon looks great!
LOVE Malkovich! Eragon does look interesting … as for Fragile Things, a story about the months of the year personified? I’m going to get this after work!
You mean you’re going to read Gaiman, Janet? Should be an interesting experience if its your first Gaiman. Doing the short stories first can be a good and a bad thing. I adore about 75% of his short stories and others just don’t do anything for me. Usually the ones I don’t like are the more experimental things of his or the stories he has done that are more adult in nature. I’d still recommend starting with Stardust or Neverwhere but I’m only saying this because I haven’t read Fragile Things yet. I really like the first story in it though which is a Hugo award winning short story that I had read in the past that is a mixture of Sherlock Holmes and the world of H.P. Lovecraft.
I am so excited about Pan’s Labyrinth I could almost die. And Fragile Things…mmm…when’s the trade coming?
“A Study In Emerald” is one of the stories in Shadows Over Baker Street, a whole collection of Holmes – Lovecraft mashups. It’s one of the best in the book, IMO.
The Lake House is out on DVD?!? Woohoo! I think it will have to be an early birthday gift to me!
I really like A Study In Emerald. I want to get the poster version of the story sometime soon (the one that I coveted when Quixotic posted about hers). Trade won’t be out for at least a year I would imagine. Unless you live in the UK which seems to publish hardbacks and paperbacks at the same time sometimes…at least that’s been my experience when I’ve looked at stuff on Amazon.uk.
Early birthday gifts are all the rage Jennyellen, go for it!!!
I’m very excited about Eragon, but not nearly as geeked as my 8 yo son. We listened to the book in the car last summer, and he just finished Eldest on CD too.
He almost wet his pants when I told him there was going to be a movie!
So…does anyone know when the third book will be out? Is he even writing it?
And I’m going to check out Pan’s Labyrinth too. Sounds good.
Lake House is on my Netflix queue, which means it’ll be a month before it get it. *sob*

mmm fragile things definitely looks yummy and wow does pan’s laberynth look amazing!! thanks for the update on desirous things carl v. i will get the fragile things after Gibson’s Idoru that was forced upon me.
Eeep! I was so excited about getting Margaret Atwood’s new one I forgot about Neil Gaiman’s!
My son, 15, completed Eragon this summer and also it’s sequel, Eldest. He is a sci fi FREAK, so I had to wake him up just now to tell him the movie has been made. It was worth it, because he said he’d take me, his treat.
I’m not sure I’m up for another Gaiman right now; at least not until I complete The Thirteenth Tale like everyone else in America. 🙂 Do you think my third graders would like it as a Read Aloud? Just kidding, but they are children who love to listen to a good book. And, several of them (at 8 years old) have read Eragon already. I’m pretty sure I’ll read them The Hobbit next, because they’ve seen The Lord of The Rings movies, but have no idea of the book which began it all. I consider that a hole in their education, don’t you?
If they are into reading something slightly scary aloud…and if you want something Gaiman but not the same as Neverwhere, you could always read the Coraline. It is a quick read and a good one.
And yes, do read them The Hobbit. I’m going to start reading that to Tori soon as well.
I did go to Barnes & Noble Friday night and read some of his short stories. I loved the one about the months talking, that was pretty cool. I even texted you with a comment I read in the introduction, did you get it?
I was playing Resident Evil 3 and it was too hard for me. I couldn’t find any of the secret items anywhere and gave up. Are they on R.E. 4 or 5 now?
