Its that time of year again, Summer Solstice, the midsummer night. The longest day of the year (hope it doesn’t feel like it at work!) This day calls to mind the land of faeries and fairy tales and since Mary and I recently returned from our own mini fairy tale vacation I figured it was about time to share.
Drink to me only with thine eyes,
And I will pledge with mine;
Or leave a kiss but in the cup,
And I’ll not look for wine.
Ben Jonson (1573–1637)

We once again spent two glories nights basking in the comfort of the Hermann Hill Inn. Upon arrival you are greeted with a smile and a snack:

The room is huge with a wonderful tub

enormous, comfy bed

a mutli-jet shower, a fireplace (which oddly enough we don’t use in June!), two televisions (so you can watch movies in bed or in the tub), and a private deck overlooking the vineyard.

(Mary glamour-shot posing so I can test the camera)
From the patio of the room we stayed in you can make your way out to the

There is a rubber mallet for you to ring the gongs for the number of years you’ve been together. We chose Soul Mates this year and gave it 17 good gongs.

From there you can go on this enchanted walking path through the woods

or is it a haunted path?
Each night at 9:30 dessert is brought to your room. It is definitely a highlight of the stay

The homeade cookies are marvelous and their signature raspberry port wine chocolate sauce is delicious.
The town of Hermann is a small German town nestled in a valley and it is very picturesque. Being a small town there aren’t many big city activities. The amusement park rides are slightly outdated

There are many interesting old houses and buildings in the town, this being one of my favorites.

All in all we had a wonderful, relaxing visit. The room is so private and comfy that you seldom want to leave it. We watched a ton of movies (they have a DVD library on site), watched an orange moon rise over the valley at the witching hour, ate great food, drank great wine, and simply enjoyed each other’s company. I look forward to returning next year.

Days of wine and roses laugh and run away,
Like a child at play.

beautiful pictures, especially of Mary and of the grapes! Sounds like your little slice of heaven 🙂
It is…its hard to leave a relaxing atmosphere like that and come back to reality.
Man warn me next time of a “haunted path”. That picture’s already giving me night terrors.
And you thought Jack Black was scary!!! 😉
We had such a wonderful time! I would highly recommend the Hermann Hill Inn to any and all who want a romantic get away.
What a gorgeous place!! That looks so relaxing and romantic. We’ll have to go there sometime. Unfortunately I will have to settle for the Treasure Island Hotel in Vegas!! Darn! 🙂
Mary, I really do like that picture of you (not the tub one). You look a little seductive. . . 🙂
Karen, Are you going to Vegas with Tom?
I like the picture of Mary, too.
Looks like a nice quiet place. I would love to go there sometime and get away from noise and into a spacious place.. Sigh. . .
Glad you had a wonderful time!
I heard about you getting those inexpensive plane tickets Karen. Hope you and Tom have a great time. When are you going?
wow, what a great place!
It looks like a beautiful place to relax and romance, however I think Mary is taking a bath wrong – isn’t there supposed to be more water and less clothing?
What? That’s how we do it in our family….we could’ve taken our clothes off? Damn!
Great Post. Thanks for the info. Glub
