(I know this is a spring image but I like it as a representation of the Spirit of the New Year whispering in the ear of our inner child encouraging us on to adventurous exploration of our world.)
Today is resolution day for so many people and I found this article on the Comcast home page. My favorites are:
“I resolve that by the end of 2006, people will want me for my body and not just my mind!”
–Tanya L.
Joan Rivers’ saying to her husband (way back when) that her resolution for the upcoming year was that she was going to have sex 365 times. He said, “That’s great, Joan! Put me down for two!'”
As we enter 2006 I had intended to write my own New Year’s wish for you but as I looked over Neil Gaiman’s 2005 wish (one I gave many people last year and one he recycled from himself from 2001) I realized that it continues to evoke so perfectly the hopes and wishes I have for myself and for all of you this year. With heartfelt sincerity:
May your coming year be filled with magic and dreams and good madness. I hope you read some fine books and kiss someone who thinks you’re wonderful, and don’t forget to make some art — write or draw or build or sing or live as only you can. And I hope, somewhere in the next year, you surprise yourself.
and although implied I would add:
Throughout the year make time to watch the sun rise, to breathe fresh air, to visit the trees, and to look at the stars…experience the simple pleasure of really noticing all the wonder around you.
Happy New Year Everyone!
And a happy new year to you and your family, Carl! May it be filled with happy wonders…
I like the idea of a good madness! Happy 2006 to you!
Happy New Year to you all, Carl! It was so fun to be with you all last week and visit.
My New Year’s resolution is not to make one this year! I never keep the ones I make, so this year will be different.
Thanks for having us over the other night Karen (and Tom). The house is looking amazing and Evely is just too cute for words!
Fun quotes!
Happy New Year!
I finally did the Razz post!
If you haven’t heard the adventure of what happened to our dog, adopted from James and Julie, it is well worth a read (here) We can laugh now but they weren’t laughing last weekend!
Great quote, and very nice way to start 2006…
Speaking of books, came across a trilogy I don’t know if you’ve heard of, but it was the best story I read in a long, long time – Philip Pullman’s “His Dark Material.”
Even though I have a ton of unread books on my shelves, I’d love to read Neil Gaiman – any direction on which to read first?
I would suggest Stardust as a first novel. Neverwhere is my favorite and Stardust is a close second…either would be great places to start but Stardust would be my suggestion. I’ve read a shofter Phillip Pullman novel but haven’t read those. I believe I have them though! 🙂
Happy New Year! I love the pix.
Happy New Year (belated at this stage I suppose, so happy Jan sales).
happy new year to ye also!
good madness indeed.
