I welcomed in the month of November with a 101 degree temp which changed to 102 on the second. Hooray for me. Maybe this means my fall/winter sickness has just gotten itself out of the way early. November is one of my favorite months for a number of reasons, not the least of which is the fact that towards the end I add another year to my age. Then of course there is the feast of food that is called Thanksgiving…this is also the day that my family traditionally puts up the Christmas tree and turns on the Christmas lights for the first time. I love the feeling as November winds bring crisp, chilled nights and the spirit of the holiday season begins to permeate the air. Yes, November is a great month.
In Ireland November 1st is the first day of Winter, so to Fence, “happy winter”!

As I lay home sick yesterday I was flipping channels and saw that Sci Fi was showing back to back episodes of Buck Rogers in the 25th Century. I hadn’t seen that show since its original run. It was fun to watch. I found it less hokey than I thought I would despite the fact that it is obviously very dated. In at least one episode it was obvious that mini-skirts were the uniform-de-jour of the 25th century as that is what all the female crew were wearing. I remember really loving this show as a kid and I enjoyed the trip down memory lane yesterday.

I met Erin Grey at a Star Trek convention in Tulsa a few years back and was stunned at how little she appears to have aged. The couple in front of me in line commented on this to her and she talked for awhile about her exercise program, etc…it obviously worked for her. She was very nice.

As I mentioned earlier, Thanksgiving is fast approaching. It is traditionally a time of massive overeating due to wonderful quantities of food being laid out in front of you. With this in mind I leave you this warning to be prepared and to lay off the left over Halloween candy in preparation for upcoming holiday gorging:

Happy November everyone!
oh my, now that’s funny!
Man, I loved that show!
The Halloween picture was a gift from Scott!
All better now?
Yup winter, with its dark evenings (specially since the clocks went back), makes it feel all Christmas-y and now that it is Nov I’m not minding that so much.
Also, a question. When exactly is Thankgiving? because my college is affiliated with an American on we get it off. But it is listed in certain places as the 25th and others as the 24th? Answers on a postcard to me.
Thanks Scott for the that photo! I hope I can still sleep tonight without having nightmares. š
Thanksgiving Day is always on a Thursday and this year it will be the 24th. I don’t know why but I always thought daylight savings time was an American thing…my ignorance is ever-growing.
I’m feeling much better today…not perfect but not feverish. Twas tempting to take today off to watch more Buck Rogers, but there’s too much to do today at work.
Come on Jeff, I know you like that picture!!! š
And Fence, my wife still wants to know what the Coca-cola turtle is.
Just an annoying ad, where this turtle wanders around being “cool” because it has a can of coke (possibly lime coke?) stuck to its back. And really amusingly even photocopies himself. The turtle is voiced by James Nesbitt
omg, that’s what’s going to happen to my butt after my chocolate attack yesterday!
I don’t know Janet, this may be due to a combination of massive amounts of chocolate AND great quantities of candy-corn pumpkins!
Carl, I am glad you are feeling better. I hate to hear when you kids are sick- it must be the “Mother Thing”. Just a note to let you know I am thinking of you.
I enjoyed all the pumpkin carvings. I’m sure they were neat-did you roast the seeds?
Love you lots!!!!!!
Thanks mom…yes we roasted the seeds…a ton of them and are still eating on ’em!
glad you’re better – being sick sucks – Erin Grey seems like a lovely lady, good to know she’s nice to boot – and Happy November to you too
p.s. – my bro send me that pic – ergh
Thanks Mysfit, yes it does…I’m not quite whole and well yet but am much better than I was a few days ago.
feel better soon, Carl!
i was gone for 3 days for a class out of town.. advanced communication.. i was so stressed, i might as well have been sick.
Thanks, I wondered why you hadn’t posted anything on your site for the past few days. Welcome back…now that you are an ‘advanced communicator’ I hope we can understand what you blog about! š
it was more along the lines of preaching.. but thanks š
I hope you’re fully recovered by now.
I had forgotten about that show, but we watched it too. Of course I LOVED Buck Rogers. Wasn’t there also a little robot that ran around making funny noises?
I think the robot’s name was Twiggy??? My dad, bro, and I loved watching that show!
OMG! I know this is really korny but my mind fails me at times. I have been trying to figure out the name of that show for YEARS! When people ask me what I watched as a child I would always describe things that happened in the show but people would look at me funny. Buck Rogers, it is all coming back to me now. My favorite coloring book was a Buck Rogers coloring book. I loved the space and all other things associated. However I am NOT a trekkie.
I had forgotten about Hawkman on Buck Rogers until I watched it the other day. I also hadn’t remembered that, at least for the shows I was watching, that there were 2 robots…the little one and a larger, rather curmodgeonly one.
Ahhh, Erin Grey. My first mad Sci-Fi crush. Man, she was a super-babe!
She’s still really attractive today!
