Random Droppings

I was pondering Spongebob the other day (hey, the drive to and from work can’t always be used for high intellectual pursuits) and thinking about the fact that one of the reasons I enjoy the show so much is the euphemisms. Let’s face it, swearing, in one form or another…whether using the actual “cuss words” or using euphemisms…is satifsying on some level or we wouldn’t all do it. It wasn’t socially acceptable to swear in my family growing up but we were liberal users of the word “crap”. We still are. In Mary’s home using the word “crap” would’ve been tantamount to stabbing someone in the eye! I love the usage of the words “Barnacles!” and “Tartar Sauce!” as cuss words in Spongebog. I laugh like a giddy schoolgirl every time it happens…I can’t help it, at the foundation of my intellect I still have a very puerile mind. With that in mind, and against my better judgement I give you The Always Amazing Euphemism Generator. I warn you that the euphemisms are mostly sexual in nature, for example: “Cross-examination revealed that he had a great deal of experience pleasing the short stainless steel alien.” I apologize but I stumbled across this last night, giggled guiltily, and now I share it with you. At the very least I know Tom will enjoy it!

For those of you not sick of Star Wars I suggest you rush out to your local store to pick up Dark Side M&M’s. They are dark chocolate versions of the regular and peanut M&M’s. The new Chocolate MPire website is really cute. The packages are decorated with fun sayings like “If they only knew the power of the Peanut” and the website has a fun little trailer, games, etc.

M&M’s are delicious anyway and I LOVE dark chocolate so I’ve quickly devoured both bags that Mary bought for me. I need more!

Lastly, there is an interesting post with comments over at the Sheila Variations site about the sanitizing of children’s activities and the culture of “everyone wins” that is so rampant today. It is a great post. Read it and comment.

  1. When I was a kid I used to pour a bunch of M&M’s in a glass and pour milk over top of them. The milk would turn a very sickly color but would taste chocolatey and then I would eat the discolored M&M slop with a spoon. They would be nice and cold and hard. A few years ago I decided to try this again and it was decidedly good…almost like M&M’s on ice cream.

  2. “Let’s just say I had a lot to learn about hot gluing the big Spanish eggplant.”

I’m not sure even my perverted mind understands that one!

C-man, it was a blast finally meeting you and hanging out with you and the gang tonight. Let’s all get together again some time soon.

Mary, maybe you can convince Angela to join us this time. šŸ˜‰

  3. It was great to meet you as well, Rob, and your sister as well. Wish you guys lived closer. We will definitely have to get together again soon. I know you have family obligations, but feel free to ditch them and come hang with James and I tomorrow night.

And yes, it would’ve been fun to have Angela there!

  4. Rush out to my nearest store and get dark chocolate m&m’s?!!!! I found my first bag at Target. As that was quickly devoured, I rushed out for more and finally found some at the third place I tried. So. of course, I bought all they had. What I want to know is what will happen to the dark side m&m’s when Star wars is a thing of the past?

  5. I personally hope they keep making dark chocolate M&M’s because I love em!

  6. glad you guys had fun hanging out.. i’m jealous! lol

… and my favorite m&m’s are the peanut butter ones… yum.

  7. I would have to agree that “crap” was used very loosely(ha ha) in our household growing up. One time, in grade school – not band camp, I was with a bunch of my friends in one of their parent’s cars. I used the word “crap” and my friends mom was quite surprised.
Remember how mom used to say “son of a buck” instead of the other “b” word!

  8. Way to go machine, bringing Star Wars into this!

That’s hilarious, Abby, I do remember that mom used to say that alot!

  9. I must be waaaaaayyyy in the dark but I kept hitting the reload button on that euphemism site and I don’t get any of those!!!!!

Don’t feel like you have to explain anything.l Somehow I think I would be embarrassed.

I had a great time last night, too. Thanks for holding the baby and spoiling her, Carl. That was sweet!

  10. She was a sweetie, I enjoyed holding her and bonding with Jaden as well, he was fun!

The only education you need to “get” the euphemisms is that most of them have to do with an activity generally done when alone!
