May the 4th Be With You

may4thbe

I am one who enjoys a good groan-worthy pun, but though I appreciate the pun-ish fun of the annual May the 4th Be With You celebration of Star Wars Day, I’ve never done anything to join in the celebration…until now.

Tonight Mary and I are going to host a couple of young ladies from our church who are, God bless them, Star Wars fans themselves. Always does the heart good to see the next generation down from yours embracing the same geek goodness that you fell in love with as a child.

So after work I’ll do a little thematic decorating, pop some popcorn, and fire up the home theater system to enjoy one of the Star Wars films. We’ve left it up to our guests to decide which film.

Your assignment for the day: find a way to work the phrase “I have a bad feeling about this” or “It’s a trap!” into normal conversation.

What about you, are you doing anything to celebrate May the 4th?

  1. Omg — I have a bad feeling about this! A feeling that will change the day. But, wait….is it bad? No, it is not. My bad. (smiling hugely right now)

You don’t even realize how much I needed this post today; the idea of working in a few Star War phrases into my day has lifted my mood. Thanks for creating a smile in my world today.
Have fun tonight with the Stsr Wars evening. I hope your guests enjoy the film they choose and the thematic environment and the awesome company.

    1. I’m happy you enjoyed it, Deanna. I hadn’t even had May the 4th on my radar until one of the young ladies mentioned it yesterday, and a get-together was born. I’ve changed my desktop wallpaper to a picture of the Millenium Falcon and I’m wearing a small Rebel Alliance pin on my sweater vest at work, so I’m full on in the SW mood.

  2. I did have a bad feeling about going to the dentist, but when he told me it would be a root canal and crown, it felt like I was going to the Dark Side (not to mention the poorer side). After two and a half hours in “the chair” I could have used a little help from the Force. Maybe I’ll get that when I go back in two weeks for the second of three appointments, but I doubt it.

    1. Ugh, your bad feeling became a bad reality. Yikes! The only thing I enjoy about the dentist’s chair is the gas. I doubt I need it, but I like the cheap thrill…or maybe not so cheap given how much they charge.

  3. I need The Force to help me get through the last couple weeks of the Spring Semester! I just finished correcting 100 research papers. Next week, I’ll be correcting FINAL EXAMS. It’s been a difficult semester with College computer problems and the most students I’ve ever had in my classes (160!). My sympathies go out to Rick Robinson and anyone else who has dental issues. I just got an dental implant: $4,000. Yikes!

    1. I cannot imagine, George. That is a lot of papers to read…and research ones at that! *shudders*.
